Hey gang. Are there any good online suppliers of components and consumables located in Canada? Almost everything I find on eBay is located in the US, and the stores most commonly linked on this forum are also American.

Any pointers much appreciated!

I get my stuff from Wiggle (UK) or ChainReactionCycles (Ireland). Much cheaper from those 2 (along with PBK although they had security issues a couple of months ago) compared to most online stores in the US. Sadly I haven't seen any Canadian operated web store front for bike parts that can compete with sites across based in the UK or Ireland. With Wiggle the few times I ordered from them, shipping was free (after you exceed a certain amount), and I did not get dinged with brokerage fees nor taxes. With ChainReactionCycles, the wheels I ordered where shipped free of charge but I did have to pay HST... price still came out way cheaper than if I bought the wheels elsewhere.

You were charged HST before July1st?

I was assuming it was HST but maybe it was a combination of GST/PST... 95 bucks on a pair of CAD 670 wheels (Shimano 7850 CL)

It was probably a duty charge, there is no PST charge... only a GST,duty,brokerage.

From the Canada Import Form ripped off the box:
Duty: 0; Excise Tax: 0; GST/HST: 33.24; PST: 53.18; Handling: 8.00; Total:94.42

I hope that clears it up for you

GST and PST are charged when the item is imported internationally. PST is only waived when being shipped from another province as it doesn't have to cross any borders, and technically, the receiver should be remitting the PST to the government upon receipt.

Same boat here. I have only used PBK and have never had any problems. Takes a little while, but there is usually not tax/duty/shipping charge which is nice.
I love the idea of supporting an LBS but when I can get tires for 1/2 price shipped to my door, it's pretty hard to jusitfy.

For a strictly Canadian site there is https://bikepartscan.com/, but their selection really sucks. I've ordered a number of parts from MEC and I've been very satisfied with them. That being said, if I lived closer to an MEC store then I would shop there in person rather than ordering parts. I have visited the Burlington store and purchased parts there.

I can't get the contact us pages to work, emailed the company a question about shipping never responded back, tried again no answer to my emails so i would avoid this site.

Just need to watch for USA or international orders to Canada that get shipped via Fedex or UPS. Fedex charges massive brokerage fees. 99% of the time if you ge the item shipped via Royal mail (Uk) or USPS (usa) you never get charged any taxes...etc.'

Fedex crush you in fees, i always check how the item will be shipped before ordering.

Does performance bike ship via USPS or other?

I only order parts from the US retailers (i.e. biketiresdirect.com) that ship via USPS not UPS. From Europe (chainreactioncycles, wiggle) you will probably avoid brokerage fees if you ship using the cheapest option (Royal Mail, etc.). This means you can't track the items online and it may take a while to reach you (up to 2 weeks) but no brokerage fees. I have ordered from MEC before but their prices are not competitive as those in the UK/Ireland/US. Most of the stuff I buy locally though are things I need to see/fit... jerseys, jackets.

No brokerage fees. They ship via Royal Mail which is the UK equivalent to USPS. Comes in a blue bag through the post office.

I just posted this in another section of the forum, thought it would apply here too. Order was about 400 and taxes at the door were 60 so overall better than i expected and still cheaper than local.

I just bought a set of wheels, cassette and other parts from chain reaction cycles in the uk and I'll buy again. Shipping was fast to Canada (ontario), I ordered on June 30th and received all items today July 5th. Not too shabby for shipping international! items arrived as described and I am pleased.
