Muskoka route advice

I'm planning to head up to the cottage this weekend, and plan to do a ride. One of my possibilities is to ride to Cooper's Falls, which apparently has some interesting abandoned buildings and a nice hiking trail.

Any problems with this route for those who've ridden in the area? For example, is Barkway Road paved?

On a side note, I'm sort of surprised there aren't more resources for route planning in this area. Peterborough has a nice cycling map which covers lots of the Kawarthas cottage country. It shows recommended routes, road surface info and which roads are high/low traffic. With all the marketing power behind the Muskoka area, I'd think they'd do more to promote cycling tourism in the area.
