Route suggestions needed for Owen Sound to Kawartha Lakes

Near the end of August I am planning a ride from Duluth, MN to Kingston, ON. I've got the route pretty well figured out except the stretch from O.S. to K.L. There seem to be choices north and south of Lake Simcoe with an equal number of rail trails to choose from on both trajectories.

I'm not even sure if the rail trails are the best way to go though I've used many of them on previous tours for both long and short stretches and like them when they are going in the direction I need to go and help me avoid traffic. A lack of pavement is usually not a deterrent.

Does anyone who is familiar with the territory have suggestions?

The rail trail between Meaford and Collingwood is good. Otherwise I would just use smaller roads. I would go north of Lake Simcoe, through Wasaga, Orillia, and Kirkfield.

Thanks, I was leaning that way. The Grey County CP Rail Trail heading south out of Owens Sound had me wondering but I can't find much out about it and the Georgian Trail out of Meaford has been given more than one recommendation so I think that is the way to go.

I did go with paul2's suggestion. Here is a picture of a souvenir t-shirt purchased in Collingwood.

Great idea
Some roads are really busy around there
