Motor shuts off when pedaling at 15 mph but not when using throttle only

Hi everyone,

My first post here. Just bought my first electric bike, old stock out of warranty but so far no major problems. One thing that bugs me though is the way the motor cuts off at about 15 mph when pedaling. If I use throttle only it tops out at about 17 and the motor continues to run without interruption. Is this normal?

Looking forward to learning from all of you.

PAS may have a top speed of 15mph. Throttle is a separate input.

PAS devices sometimes have ability to set limits to power and speed. With the throttle, you set those limits by how far you press the throttle.

Thanks for the reply Chas58.

Today it started cutting off at various speeds while is PAS, 8, 12, 13, mph ect. but only for a second then it starts again. To avoid this annoyance I disconnected the PAS sensor in the controller so now I can just use throttle and pedal without the pedal having any input on the motor. I actually like this set-up much better. There is no switch or button to use PAS only or TAG only and sometimes I would accidentally use the throttle and PAS at the same time causing it to lunge due to the double input. Now I have much more precise control of the human/motor power ratio without having to press any buttons and the motor runs fine without hesitation.

Next thing to do is to replace the bottom bracket with a sealed cartridge BB and replace the 38T single chainring with 46T so my feet aren't spinning so fast at top speed.
