I've never ridden a Focus and didn't know they were so nicely made (sounds like the Kalkhoff's). Focus does state that bike has an all new improved system (?).
Just finished a quick 10 mile street ride (dropped off a car for maintenance and rode the eMTb home). I noticed I really only use 4th, 5th & 6th gears on the street. Hit a new top speed at 32.2mph coming down a freeway overpass in 7th.
Anyway, I ran my gearing on a gearing calculator and this is where it stands:
eMTB = 27.5/650B, 2.10 rear tire, 42 tooth front chain ring and 11-13-15-18-22-28-34 cassette 7spd (85 cadence)
1st - 8.5mph
2nd - 10.3mph
3rd - 13.1mph
4th - 16.0mph
5th - 19.3mph
6th - 22.2mph
7th -26.3mph
NOTE: haven't ridden this new cassette off-road yet; the old 1st was 32T.
IF you bike is the same (probably not), then here is your 30 x 11-17-28
1st - 7.4mph
2nd - 12.1mph
11th - 18.8mph
IMHO a properly geared 3spd would work fine for a lot of street E-bikers.

Electric Cyclery has Kalkhoff too now that you mentioned them as well as their "house brand", Everly.
I rode my bike to the park in the 30/17 which was fine since I don't care if the bike tears it up, 18-20 mph is fine; plus my other bike easily goes 32 mph if I need to go faster.
Don't think that I'll need a torque sensor now the gearing has changed (it would be nice to have one, but doesn't seem required).

NP, found out at Sea Otter that Kalkhoff and Focus are part of the same conglomerate; Kalkhoff "focuses" on city bikes. MI Sporttechnik was there with gorgeous e-bikes, but costly at $8,000 (or $10,000, can't remember) - $16,000. Way out of my range for a bike.

Interesting. Those are some crazy prices. Did they have that beautiful Focus hardtail with 612Whr battery there with a price on it?
