Ph.D. Scholar's Electric Bike World Record Attempt
Ravi Kempaiah, a Ph.D. Scholar and e-bike enthusiast, left last week for his monthlong ride on his Stromer bike from Madison, WI to San Diego, CA on a World Record quest. He will be riding 5,000 miles to break the current record of 4,443.4 miles on an e-bike.
He’ll be stopping at five national parks along the way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Ravi, originally from South India, is riding to bring awareness to e-bikes in the United States.

Must be a different record than the Australian couple who have traveled more than 10,000 miles around Europe, and will continue in the US at some future time.

That's great, BUT, how is he charging up the battery? How far is he riding per charge? In other words how much personal effort involved compared to how much E-Assist he is getting? All those things can matter in a BIG WAY, when one tries to say they "toured" across N America on an E-Bike...

I think the key to this record attempt is "electric bicycle". There was actually a guy back in the 1930's who set a record of over 75,000 miles in a year (Tommy Godwin) and that meant he averaged something like 6000 miles a month - that was on a standard bicycle obviously. I'm not sure what he's doing to charge the bike up though. He's got a blog and ride updates here:

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

Like was mentioned above, it says he is riding a Stromer ST2s; however, no other meaningful information is provided.

TTG; amazing record that was broken this year. Also, the Australian couple are on e-Haibikes only say that because Haibike makes pedal-only for the European market..
