To reach the performance of Downhill mountain bikers on a ebike that is also fast going up the hills in a lightweight configuration ebike made and marketed a new sport can be born! This is a place where I sometimes ride by ebike but not as fast LOL.

That looks like a really nice area..It would be a bit of a bummer hitting a hiden rock in the grass though (i noticed they stayed on paths)..I kind of wonder, if a ebike were to have a similar configuration and use as a DH bike. I don't think hub motors would cut it. Not unless someone came up with a hub motor designed to take that type of impact. I think a frame mounted motor would be better way to go.

Yes. The motor should preferably be mounted inside the triangular section and driving through the gears for this DH ebike.

With a 5 lb motor installed on the swingarm using only a single chain/composite sprocket motor reduction to the wheel makes for 1600 watts of peak power that is vary efficient and is the lightest, PROTECTED inline motor system of it's kind that will perform well on any ebike.For performance lightweight powerful ebikes there is no subistute.Unless you used a noisy puma hub motor that will have it's longevity limits.I have taken a few off road headders on my heavy steal frame Huffy with this set up and have not broken anything.A 20 lb aluminum MTB Ebike would weigh in at 34 lbs with the motor system and a 7 lb lithium pack good for a 25 mile range at 20 mph of off road riding.The range of 12 miles up ANY hill and 12 miles down hill would make any Maui dirt ebiker happy!
Yes LIGHTNESS will cost a bit more but the performance, quality and durability would be unequaled in a Ebike.IMO any hub motor would NOT be an option.Notice that the space frame lithium bike has room for four 7 lb batteries good for over a 100 mile range with no pedaling.
Your right about hidden lava rocks in the tall grass and unless you have ridden in certain places many times you can expect to eat it at times if you go too fast. That's what motocrossing is all about.Riding on the edge! and having equipment that will handel punishment.

Thats a pretty neat idea with the motor right on the swing arm. On a full suspension application, with the motor close to the piviot point it shouldn't effect the rebound response of the swing arm. (sprung weight). Who is using this set up now? It's a prototype i take it? Full suspension or hard tail? I can't see the upper part of the picture.

It's a $80. K-Mart Huffy bike.So far I am the only one using this system I confifured 6 years ago with this 1600 watt motor driving the 3 speed hub that hasn't broke yet.Only if it was aluminum.. LOL... These pics were taken after my first trip of 72 miles traveling up to the summit of a 10.005 ft Volcano and back to the beach with four 20 lb batteries that have the same power denisity as NIMH batteries.Amazingly the Huffy has 10s of thousands of miles on it now with no failures.It's just too heavy for me now with the lithiums that I would like to use to there full potentail on a 34 lb ebike including 25 miles worth of batteries.

Thanks! It could be a much better bike at FIFTY times the cost then throw away all the derailers..OR just make a 1000 of these at $300. each.Two swingarms and motors will work nice on a trike like a "SHreader" LOL

A slight modfication of a motor and batery pack space on this $20. MTB frame from India instaling quailty components would be up to the builder or dealer.This would address a protected motor mount the most economic way and would provide room for a slightly larger 2500 watt motor weighing 7 lbs. or a 5 lb 1600 watt motor 2 1/2" X 5 1/4."

LMAO And so will the team Marvic guys who made the summit 3 minutes before me and watched me eat all the great breakfast food as they were getting sick from there three hour power pedal to 10,005 feet in elevation of the 36 mile trip huffing for air.
and Lowell will still have a 100 lb ebike.

'Looks like a good place for an old Wavecrest TidalForce. Those hub motors seemed to do okay for MIL qualification.

Ah, the great RANDY has spoken - I went and checked M750 Wavecrest specs - 64lbs with NiMh. Outfit with Lithium chemistry it would drop a few pounds but still be a little over 50lbs. So, you win! Yep, hang that 5lb motor off the swingarm, wear your stoopid chit eating grin and see how long it stays securely attached when jumping, diving and carrying on like in the video.

So far the motor survived about 5000 off road miles and 20,000 miles of road riding.The pedals would get damaged before the motor in any lay down.A good hub motor race for lowell may be the WaveCrust Tidal flush.
If you have a better way of mounting a 5 lb motor with 1600 watts of power onto a full suspension ebike lets see it.
You must be the new actor in Lowells Broadway play.

These races would separate the kids ebikes from REAL Ebikes using the same kind of batteries with the same WH. rating.
A criterium, or crit, is a type of bike race held on a short course (usually less than 5 km), often run on closed-off city center streets.
Race length can be determined by a total time or a number of laps, in which case the number of remaining laps is calculated as the race progresses. Generally the event's duration (commonly one hour) is shorter than that of a traditional road race — which can last many hours, sometimes over the course of several days or even weeks, as in a Grand Tour. However, the average speed and intensity are appreciably higher. The winner is the first rider to cross the finish line without having been "lapped".
Events often have prizes (called primes, usually cash) for winning specific intermediate laps (for instance, every 10th lap).
Success in criterion's requires a mix of good technical skills — in particular, the ability to corner rapidly and sharply — and riding safely with a large group on a short circuit and exceptional fitness to attack other riders and repeatedly accelerate hard from corners.
Criterion's are relatively easy to organize and do not require a large amount of space. They are the most common type of bicycle racing in the continental United States.

lol but i dont think he made any money doing it he just wanted to run. i also did road races i wasn't
a big fan when it came to steep hills in the course. well that and the odd crash nothing feels better than using your ass as a brake pad.

personally if i was in a pack and i saw a guy on my course with a ebike i would laugh first than turn into him especially when theres money on the line.

be Careful if you keep publicizing how good your ebike is you may be in danger of being killed by oil tycoons lol
