Question Need Some Help With A Schwinn E-Bike

Hi I just purchased a new Schwinn E-Bike from Canadian tire a couple of weeks ago and when I got it they didn't have the manual for the bike so the only info I got was a little pamphlet that came with the charger.

I followed the instructions for charging the bike but after 8 hours of charging the battery, the indicator light never started to flash green at anytime nor did it go solid green like the pamphlet said it should.

I let it charge for 12 hours total but still got no solid green light but decided to try the bike anyway. It seemed to work well and it had plenty of pep and I have kept following the instructions that say to charge it after you finish riding which I have done but as of yet I still haven't seen a flashing green light or a solid green light.

My question here would be for those of you that own the bike have you run into this problem or do I have a problem with the charger or maybe the battery? .... From what I've read so far it sounds like a problem with the battery but I'm not sure and is it possible that the charger is malfunctioning?

Thanks for any input

A volt meter could tell you which is not working properly. Since it's still under warranty, head to CT to get the faulty part taken care off. If you still don't know which is not working right bring both parts along.

it also takes time to brake in new led acid, leave it on the charger just keep a eye on it touch the battery case make sure it not geting hot. my izip when new did the same thing

my charger reads first charge 18 to 24 hours with new led acid.

I bought two Izips and one came with a charger that blinks green when charging and then solid green when charged. The other one came with a charger that shows a red light when charging that turns green when fully charged. I never had to leave them charging more than 4 hours to fully charge.
There's not a lot of info in the owners manual anyway. One thing it says is not to leave plugged in for more than 24 hours.

Well I charged the battery yesterday for 10hrs but got no solid green light but I had a short ride early this morning and when I got back I plugged in the bike and let it charge and 4 hours later the charger finally turned solid green.

At this point I'm still not convinced it's working properly but I still have 2 weeks left to take tha bike back and get my money back or if I go past that date then I have 90 days warranty on battery and charger so I still have a bit of time.

I did find the number for Dorel (the company that actually makes the bike for Schwinn) so I will give their number a call tomorrow and speak with them and see what they have to say, Oh for any of you who are interested the number is 1-800-544-1108.

It seems like the battery is getting a good charge and I think i'm getting about the right amount of mileage per use so for now I think I'll keep testing and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply's everyone and if anyone has any more input please post your experiences

Thanks Dave

yes after the first charge. all new sla has a long charge the first time around. it takes a few charges to bring it to full capacity. i read the manual doral hasn't a clue what a ebike even is let alone how to care for it.

Well I was told on 2 occasions that I could return the bike within 30 days and get a FULL REFUND no questions asked, providing the bike wasn't damaged and it still had all the parts. Now maybe there is a no return policy with regular bikes, but I got this straight from the Assistant manager of the store just to be sure there was no confusion before I bought the E-Bike.

I called Doral and they told me the same thing that i've read here that sometimes it takes a few weeks to produce a full charge but they are going to send me the manual for the bike as well as a new charger all for free so the phone call wasn't a waste of time.

I've now tested for the last week and so far whenever I take my bike for a ride it now charges and the light now turns green usually within 4 to 6 hours depending on how long i've rode that day. So it would seem that I don't have a problem and I will be keeping the bike and consider it a pretty good bargain for $350 on sale.
