How do I decrease drag from hub motor

I have my amped-bikes motor kit on. However, the motor creates a drag that causes me to need "help" getting up hills I previously didn't need help on. Is this just the nature of using a hub motor or is there something I can do about it? I plan to ask A-B, also. During the ride, my controller got way too hot, even sitting on top of my battery case. Maybe it is because it is 100 degrees out? In hot weather, I need a "cooler" system. I plan to buy a plastic box, drill holes, and use a cooling mat in the box. Had a wonderful ride today on the highway and then up a rough dirt road with steep inclines. I found I had to put my gears in the easiest of my 21 gears to get up the hill and keep some of my body weight forward to help traction. Glad I kept all the gears, so far. I went 15 miles (including some serious hills) and my battery still had plenty of juice left.

That would be a good time to apply power ;-)

Ahhh, that WAS with power. Hmmm. . . . . I asked Danny Raye at amped bikes and he suggested a bad connection might be the problem. We went over everything and got permission from Danny to re-do some connections, etc without voiding the warrenty. It is now working like a champ. The drag isn't as bad, either. I had a wonderful ride today. And never had to go into the easiest gear. I will take a more hilly route tomorrow. BYW. . . you think I am such a dingbat that I wouldn't use the thumb throttle to get up the hill? LOLOLOL! I'm old but I ain't that old. You made me laugh and I thank you for that.
