New ebike, 1st problem-questions

Hello, I have a new wilderness energy bl-36. I have used it for 8 days now for my big 6 mile round trip commute without any problems until now. I ride 3 miles then it sits for about 9 hours until my return ride. Today I turn it on for my ride home and it's dead no lights, nothing I check all the cable connections and battery connections all looks good. Get home plug in the charger for about 5 minutes and give it another try and throttle lights up green and it works?? Can the battery go dead after a 3 mile ride even if it sat for 9 hours without a charge? Any ideas? I didn't leave the controller on either. Also I have a couple of other questions. Besides turning the controller off should I also disconnect it from the battery pack? Same for when I charge it do I need to disconnect the battery from the controller? Thanks for any advice!

I read on either this forum or another forum similar problems with the wilderness kits.
I would return it. I think they are having battery problems
