My "36 volt" LiFePo battery shows 44 volts after charge??

New to electric transportation.
I've posted this on other bike forums but haven't gotten an answer yet.

500 watt, 36 volt, 20 amp Ping battery that I just installed on my bike and charged it overnight.

My Multimeter shows 44volts. Could Ping have sent me a 48 Volt by mistake or is something wrong somewhere? Is this typical? How would I verify amps? Do I need one of those Watt's up dodads?

I rode it around the parking lot of the local tavern this morning and it ran fine. 42 volt reading after.

Any help, advice, reassurance or theories will be appreciated.

Thats normal for a 36 volt lithium iron phosphate battery. Mine is 45.3 off the charger - individual cells will go up to 3.77 volts on my ebikes.ca battery. 36 is very nominal and is maybe the "average" voltage until low voltage cutoff. A 48 volt battery would be well above 48 hot off the charger.

My sigh of relief got my dogs to barking.
Thanks a bunch.

A side note...The motor is a golden motor with that much maligned rear wheel. I spent a couple of hours with it... put small washers under the spoke nipples, adjusted the spoke tension, even, tight and correct, three rim liners and put on a new (quality) tire and tube. Full tire pressure.

I seems to be a pretty good rim, actually, bomb proof even. We'll see.
Though I do have a couple of good double wall rims coming. Devilish2.gif

I think part of the issue with the Golden hub is that some folks may have hoped that the rim would stand up to a 200 pound rider plus a 30 pound lead acid battery pack (which it probably would if the spoke tension were carefully adjusted by hand by a good wheel builder). If you're a light person like me (130 pounds) and use a lightweight battery, the rim gets about half as much stress.
