Just Posted on E-Motor assist
From e-motor assist (Yahoo groups):
"Just saw this on Craig’s List in Toronto. Seems e-bikes and in particular e-scooters have really got up people’s noses.
I was tempted to sell e-scooters even though I don’t really like them very much and I would agree with the idea that e-scooter buyers need to take a learn how to drive course because some of the Vespa-like e-scooters I have seen are driven by people who clearly have no clue how to drive anything with 2 wheels.
I also have a problem with e-bikers who drive on bike paths while impaired on alcohol. Thought I’d seen everything till last August I found a guy with a 6 pack of Beer in his Panniers who stopped every few hundred feet to finish off a beer and toss the can onto the path. I was chatting with him for awhile. Seems he lost his car License for impaired driving and so he got a Schwinn with a Currie motor. I pointed out he bought a Girls Model and he laughed and said he was drunk when he bought it and didn’t notice that till he sobered up.
I thought this was really an isolated case till I found a group of 4 e-scooter owners sitting together all drinking cans of beer. One passed me later and he was trying to see how close to the edge of the sea wall he could get without falling into the lake----there was an urge to give him a nudge. Later I saw him driving full speed on a sidewalk used by pedestrians.
Later on in the week I saw 2 e-scooter people racing one another on a residential street. They were going East on a one way street going West.
I figure I have seen at least 100 e-scooters on the road since June and of that 100 only 2 people had Helmets on. Have also spoken with a good 20 e-bikers who refused to wear Helmets (because it messed up their hair or they thought Helmets looked un-cool) Grrrrrrr
I cannot see e-bikes being banned in Ontario but I can see e-scooters being banned or Licensed. Only problem is Legislators may not distinguish e-bike from e-scooter and lump us together and then we’re screwed."

An associate just emailed me to tell me that someone had quoted a libelous diatribe on this forum and attributed it to me. Although that is not completely true, the OP did put my journal url at the bottom of the post. I no longer post on this forum because of the inconsistant moderator and the personal attacks of some forum members. but I would like to make a statement to Electric Bike forum members:
The original post you see below, was as stated posted on a Yahoo forum called 'e-motor assist'. Although I am a member of this forum, this particular tome was penned by one Joshua Goldberg from EV Solutions in Toronto.
I do not agree with what Mr Goldberg stated about electric bike riders in general and electric scooter riders in particular, although I do believe that they should be regulated separately. To dismiss e-bike riders as drunkards, and municipal and provincial law breakers is irresponsible and only marginalizes the serious eBike enthusiast. I regret his actions.
