I'm glad you enjoy your hybike. I personally have had nothing but problems with mine. The pedal has fallen off, the rear fender fell off, the battery stoped working, and now I can't get ahold of the guy to get my bike fixed. I am extreamly disapointed in a vehical that I am paying 1400 dollars for.

I watched the video....a few things I noticed...


all the participants that were riding the bike, seemed to be small framed humans..170 lbs or less in weight...

the ergonymics of the bike/pedals, looks to me that it would be un-natural or difficult to pedal it for long stretchs at a time.

they say the $799 model is a 48 volt...but they dont say how many watts...

the bike itself looks cheaply made to me...very plasticy looking...and the fact that they can sell it for under $800 , should indicate there are alot of cheaply made materials in it...

Notice that they do not show the bike going up any steep hills...all on flat land...

I doubt this bike would work well or be confortable for any person over 200 lbs and taller then 6 ft....


Since the whole bike itself is made in china...it is probably geared towards chinese people who are often under 5ft 5" tall and weigh under 160 lbs.

In the end, I think its better to get a WELL MADE and comfortable bicycle used, for around $200 , which specifically fits the users size, and then buy a electric bike kit suited for your needs. ....one can buy a complete bike kit , in the 24 -48 volt --- 250-1000 watt ranges for $750 or less.....

This is exactly what I am doing...I bought as LIKE NEW { only 2 months old] bicycle made by Giant..it is a 21 speed hybrid aluminum bike...21" frame..very lightweight...front shocks
and comfortable...for $200 ....the guy I bought it from paid $380 and then he put another $200 in the bike...on things like a nice rear rack..a computer odometer/speedometer..2 water bottle holders...rear light, etc....then I purchased the most powerful electric kit on ebay, from china, for $749...including lifepo4 battery rated at 48volts and 20 aH....

so for $949 , I should have a electric bike taylor made for my specific body size and driving conditions. I think this is much better then buying a cheaply pre-made bike like the one in the video, that may be lacking in power and not made for my large body frame/ driving needs.

In regards to Sunnyday, they are extreamly made now. They are a Korean made (not Chinese) scooter. not only is it a pain to peddle but they drilled the holes the wrong and the left peddle has a tendency to loosen as you peddle it. there is no form of locking mechanisms on the bikes structure which allows bolts and nuts to loosen as you ride your bike. I do put strong reguards to the term NOW though because the older bikes (like pre 2010ish) were better built and didnt have as many problems. also the bike handles well with a 250 LB man and his 180LB GF on it. (although they not rated for more then 300) the other problem with them isthe center of balance on the bike is positioned to far to the rear and if you do put a decent amount of weight behind you (say 50+ lbs) you start to loose traction on the front tire.

In all honesty your best bet is to go down to a bike shop and order yourself a decent Hybrid Automatic 21 Speed bike fr a decent price (say about 500ish dollars) and then go buy one of the very nice electric motors that power the chain and not your tire or your peddle. the reason for this is you can then have a standard bike rate up to about 45 MPH if you really wanted to but could also tone it down to the standard 25MPH all by the adjustment of a derailer.

I'm in my senior year of mechanical engineering. We have done several experiments with solar PV panels. The efficiency is 10-15% at best. That's a sunny day, no clouds, high noon, and the panel is directly pointed at the sun. That scooter may have (generously .5 m^2) solar panel area. At best your looking at about 15 W or .02 Horse Power. This will not be enough to replenish the battery fast enough. You need several hundred watts for a scooter, and for this thing to really have a 'limitless range' it would have to have 3 m^2 of solar panels. That's a 5.5 x 5.5 foot surface area. Far too large for a scooter. That's with the batteries.

I'm at just under 17st and I want a electric scooter that cost no more than Ł300. I want one that got a good battery life and will also get me up hills..

Speed don't matter to much aslong it's faster than me walking.

Also how much is that in USD? Doesn't sound like alot, you might have a hard time finding any electric scooter for under $1000 USD.

I would make sure that the laws in your country allow the use of them at all.
I know here in the states.. Most states won't allow them on the roads (or even sidewalks) and I know ALL states won't allow them on foot paths under power.

When you buy a Hybike, the motor is the ONLY thing under warrantee. Like sonji, I had the pedals fall off. (Once in a busy left turn lane where I had to go retrieve parts dodging cars) The Hybike dealers suggestion was to go out & purchase "Lock-Tight" to make sure it didn't happen in the future. Same suggestion for the mirrors loosening all the time. Flat tire in the first week, The Hybike dealers suggestion was to go out & purchase tire goo. The worst problem was the Hybike would stop working in the middle of a ride from the get go! The Hybike dealer reminded me that he only waranteed the motor, but take the bike to some one who can work on Hybikes & well see. Did he have a place for me to go?? NOOOO, I had to research it myself. I took it to three different places before I found a repairman taking a break outside of his bike store. He took an interest & opened up the elec. box on the bike and started fishing through the rats nest of wiring. None of the wires or parts were straped down. He found a wire that had fallen out of its connector, reconnected it, no charge.

The phone number that you call for Hybikes is a cell & if you leave a message, he doesn't call back. If he recognises your number, he will not pick up. Oh, I almost forgot. The battery charger has stopped automatically shutting off after charging the battery. My daughter is complaining that it doesn't go as fast as it did when we first got it.

What a hassel!!!!! Don't buy a Hybike!!!!!!!

I road a scooter e-bike in Winnipeg for 2 years. It was my principle transportation during the non-snow seasons. I loved it! It enhanced my life. I am a retired man without a driver's license. Here in Long Island, NY, the hills are too steep for the scooter. So I bought a Trek power assisted bike. But I still miss the scooter.

I've been riding an izip via lento for about 6 months now and have loved it, but it's slowly falling apart (at approx. 3,500 miles to date). I bought it originally as an experiment and then lost my car so it's been my primary means of transportation for a while now. I'm looking to get something that won't break the bank but gets better milage than the izip. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

though it reads on E Moto website, a speed restricted option is offered
for states that exclude them specifically.

.. like a 30cc motor is OK, but a 50cc, is not.

I have a Dream Ryder 60V 450W e-bike.I believe made by Volt Canada.I am having trouble with it after I start it.It will start and back tire starts to turn for about 5 seconds then it will all of a sudden stop.Anyone have this problem or suggestions?Thanks.

I strongly disagree with saying electric scooters are junk. I sorely miss mine. In New York, where I now live, electric scooters ARE illegal. I bought a Trek Pedalic which is legal and ok but not nearly as much fun as the scooter I owned when I lived in Winnipeg. I was able to ride that scooter all over the city. It was serious transportation. I think the main "bicycle"-like feature was the speed governor with a maximum of 20mph. The presence of pedals was not important.

I drive around 40 km per day ( Now the meter shows 23,000km ). Its been over two years now, for around 18 months it gave around 40-50 km/charge. Now it gives around 20-25km . . My bike has 1000w motor and 48v 40ah VRLA battery.



It has two modes . Normal mode : gives a speed of 35km/hr max. Power mode : gives a max speed of 55-60km/hr . In normal mode i can drive around twice as longer as in Power mode (speed sucks though )


Instead of changing VRLA batteries for every 2 years.I'm now thinking of changing over to LiFePO4 batteries. One of the suppliers :

3) 790$ seems quite excessive .. Here 48v 40ah VRLA costs 20k (400$ approx). . Is the pricing right ??

When used for an e bike or scooter a lead acid battery provides about half of the rated amp hours. What this means is that a 48v20ah lifepo4 battery will provide similar range to what you got with the lead acid battery when it was relatively new. The 40ah battery will far exceed the range you got with lead acid. If you got two years of use from a lead acid pack it's likely you will get four from a lifepo4 pack if you keep the same usage habits. This may be true even if you switch to a 20ah pack.

Your battery meter probably won't work very well with lifepo4. What is sold as a 48v lifepo4 may or may not be close to the voltage of a lead acid pack... It could easily run 2V higher in normal use

It should be noted that for best life Lithium batteries should only be discharged to about 80% depth of charge. Just like lead-acid should only be discharged 50%. Ni-Cd, NiMH, & NiFe are about the only ones that do well with 100% depth of dis-charge.

So in sizing with Lithium batteries one should size it to 125% of what you need to allow for only using 80% of the rated capacity.

Long story short a 48V 25Ah Lithium battery should give you the same amount of usable power as a 48V 40Ah lead-acid battery without over dis-charging the battery.

Watts = volts x amps.

So, 1800w divided by 48v = 37.5 amps.

Most batteries list maximum continuous current (amp) ratings and "short-term" or "peak" ratings. These "peak" ratings are sometimes measured in very short durations (i.e. a few seconds), or (with higher quality components) as much as 30 seconds or more.

Manufacturers will sometimes try to make their product "look better" by making absurdly high "peak" amp ratings that are based on a duration of just a few seconds.

Anyway, I usually try to select a battery/BMS combination that offers a peak rating that is no more that about 2-5 amps beyond the battery's maximum continuous amp rating.
