injuries

Yesterday morning on my daily commute , I had my 1st E-bike related injury.

Someone pulled into the crosswalk just ahead of me. I admittedly was going a bit fast but I had the signal.
They never looked my way once, but I still called 1/2 my fault & we went our separate ways without exchanging any detailed info.

I was on the brakes hard , but still had enough momentum to be thrown from the bike & slide across the hood of the car. I came down hard on my right hand which instinctively went out the break my fall but it crumpled under me & I ended up with a fractured eye orbit & sprained wrist.

Anyone else have something similar to share?

How fast did you go? With my e-bike, I tend to ride more often in the middle of the lane since I can go faster. I don't feel quite safe on the shoulders at the higher speeds.

in any case, it sounds like it was all their fault since you had the right of way.

Hope you get better. Sounds painful.

I'd say I was at about 25ish mph
Somewhere around 3/4 throttle for my rig.
They pulled up past the stop bar & into the crosswalk area just as I was about to enter it at a high speed. I should of slowed down a lot more but I was in a hurry & there were on other vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists present so I "assumed" they would stop in the right place & I was safe.
We all know what happens when we "assume" don't we?

Crosswalk? Were you on the road or the sidewalk? Ride on the road! Sidewalks are for pedestrians.

Yea , I know but there is no shoulder along that stretch so I'm in the habit of running the sidewalk when there are no pedestrians present in such areas.

I normally cruise at around 15ish when not on the road, but like I said, I had the signal & was in a hurry. It truly was at least 1/2 my fault as I previously stated.
I'm absolutely not going around terrorizing busy sidewalks in my area, this was just one of the places where I decided it was easier to take that route & I payed the price for my misjudgment. It's actually more of a footpath than a sidewalk & taking it saves me almost a 1/2 mile if I were to stay on the road.

Oh, I thought you were on the shoulder. The sidewalk's a different story, of course. I don't expect ANY driver to watch out for 25mph moving pedestrians.

I take sidewalks regularly as well in the right circumstances. They're convenient and even safer than the roads if used properly.

Going 25mph into a crosswalk off a sidewalk is definitely asking for trouble, esp. if there are cars nearby.

I've had people pull out in front of me on side roads. It has gotten better since I wear high visibility jacket or vest. They have seemed to notice more

From the other side, I was pulling out of a gas station intending to make a left onto a congested two lane street with a center turn lane. Finally there was a break in traffic, looked left, nothing, looked right, one car far enough away especially with a turn lane, looked left AND hit the gas at the same time. Holy crap, here was a Harley with two on board where 2 seconds ago there was nothing. Slammed the brakes, Harley swerved and continued.

Still can't believe I didn't see a big chromed-out hog with his hot babe on the back (who flipped me off). Scared the heck out of me, I should have looked left BEFORE hitting the gas one more time.

In any event, bicycles are even harder to see.

I am aware of the fact that all 2 wheelers have a lower visibility than larger vehicles. I'm not angry about this incident at all. Like I said, I was going too fast in a place I should not of been, however I also know they never looked my way once & were about to turn against the signal & this is why I call it a 50/50 split fault.
