Question Pedal- Electric Hybrid Trike Trucks?

Has any one seen a pedal electric trike that can handle 500lbs cargo up very steep hills?

It requires very low gears or way too big motors and batterys....So I need to find some one that has made one with low gerars like a 50 to 1 reduction.

Check out Lightfoot Cycles, which is based in Montana. They offer electric assist for their trikes and they even have some cargo trikes. (They build pedicabs, too which can have electric power assist added. https://www.lightfootcycles.com/pedicab.php) https://www.lightfootcycles.com/trikes.php

With a tadpole trike (truke?), would your load be in front of you or behind? If behind, it would seem to be difficult to balance the load. Any links to photos of something like you are thinking of?

or maybe something like this? It would be simple enough to electrify. I'm not sure about the gearing.

jawnn,

You didn't indicate that you were only interested in tadpole trikes in your original post. So, don't complain; be more specific next time you post a question. The only tadpole trike that I've seen built for cargo is Greenspeed's GTU, but I don't know if it can haul 500 pounds. You'd need to ask Greenspeed. However, you'd have to add power assist yourself, I don't think that's an option that can be added at the factory. It wouldn't be hard to do.

I had never seen his website before. His prices are reasonable and his bikes certainly look good.

Speaking of Lightfoot Cycles. I was just roaming around their web site. In the used demo section they have a new golden motors hub for sale $125.00 https://www.lightfootcycles.com/demos.php Sounds like a steal if you know what you are doing.

Greenspeed are quite happy to add power at the factory.

Here are my two Greenspeed trikes. The red one I took delivery of in December 09, and came with the motor built into the rear wheel, all the controls fitted and a custom built platform for the batteries, just visible under the seat.
