Hypothetical AC e-bike

Could one say use a DC to AC converter and run a motor on an ac current? If so, what are the pros and cons? I know DC is direct and AC is reversing current but how would this effect the speed, torque and performance of the motor as compared to DC?

I don't know, but you're going to lose some of your energy in all that conversion.

Oh, and I'd hate to touch the wrong wire, or whatnot. AC would give you a nice little jolt. DC is more forgiving in that department. (Unless your crossing battery terminals with conductors. FLASH!)

I want to ride around and kill puppies with ac voltage like Tom (Not the inventor of the light bulb) Edison did. (KIDDING) Too bad Tesla isn't around.. he'd build me a kick butt e-bike. Ha! Tesla Rules - He actually invented tons of more stuff we use today then Edison. Edison only improved on an existing light bulb design. Big Whoop. But I digress.. you know.. after I posted the above I realized that If I used this conversion it would most likely suck battery power down real fast. It's not something I want to do.. just thinking too much.

Come to think of it... It would be pretty fun to blast bunny rabbits, just like the biker in "Raising Arizona"

Maybe a Tesla bike isn't such a bad idea. Perhaps you could sacrifice a little speed and add a second SLA battery bank. You know.... For the ray gun.

Not so hypothetical, apparently...

Though he's missing the Tesla Coil on the front handlebars.
