The Copenhagen Wheel?

Anybody know if this is making any progress toward commercialization?

Here's a brief article about it from the Portlandia news.

when I look at the superpedestrian site, they are still taking pre-orders -- for $800. I don't think I would hand over money to someone that has been hyping something like this until they started shipping.

What concerns me is they are sodering the batteries to the wheel! I wonder how long that soder will hold the battery considering the punishment the rear wheel takes on a daily basis.

Not sure what makes you think they are soldering the battery to the wheel. The battery pack is encased in a large hub on the wheel.

I agree! I'm still dreaming of a viable pedal-assist option for my very hilly, 36 mile roundtrip (occasional) commute. I hesitate to plunk down 2 or 3X more for a BionX kit, and I can only guess that the CW would have less power and range, given its smaller package.
