Homemade li ion ebike battery pack from recycled laptop and Dewalt battery A123 cells
10s 4p Samsung 2600 mah laptop battery cells in parallel with 11 s 1p A123 2300mah Dewalt battery cells. The A123 cells deliver the punch up the hills and the Samsung cells charge the A123 cells going down the hill.
Made from 6 year old tested cells from junked packs.
Good for about 15 miles easy.
Pack designed, engineered and built in Florida USA !

That pack was designed to carry me, 169lbs for fun 15 mile rides over the roads with small hills where I live using high quality cells that I was able to buy real cheap.
After months of testing I hit upon this combo.
It is taped up now and has hundreds of miles on it. That was a picture I took when first testing.
One way to look at it would be the A123s are like the big caps in power supplys that smooth out the current flow.
Neither pack by itself will power the bike for long but both packs teamed up will do 15 miles easy. Much more if I pedal.
Both packs get balanced charged on a Hyperion 1420i after each ride.
That pack was custom made to fit me and my bike to help get to the places I need to go.
Sold the Mercedes.

The BMS for careful, safe charging is this charger.
It is hooked up to an old Dell and those are screen shots in the post above.
As you can see the cells balance to about .002 of a volt.
For the BMS to prevent over discharging I am using 4 of these with the low voltage alarm set to 3 volts.
The alarms have not gone off on my 14 mile rides.
The test bike was a Lee Iacocca Mini Ebike 36 volts all stock except the battery.
It is a blast to ride with that pack.
I sold it.
