Hurray!!!! Seeing those pics brings back memories (getting teary eyed).

SiXiam, you'll want to replace that rear set of cogs with the Shimano brand from ebike.ca...trust me. Get the removal tool from ebike.ca as well.

What's the size of the brake adapter? 48mm?

Spirit733t, see what your missing!

Good news for me as well, my 44mm adapter has moved on from customs.

The six point star adapter on the disc has an inner diameter of 35mm and an outer diameter of 45mm (between star points).
edit: Also 48 mm between bolt points, which is probably what you wanted...lol

Yep, you won't be able to use your stock 180mm brake disc.

O.K., the next question is why haven't you got it up and running yet? I mean, you got it about two hours ago, right?

For those of you thinking about an electric bicycle there may be tax credit benefits as well here in the United States: https://www.irs.gov/irb/2009-30_IRB/ar07.html

Here's another article: https://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/08...cle-tax-break/

edit: Though the tax credit expired in January 1, 2012; Congress is in the process of extending it.

optibike is given you $1200 credit on your next opitbike buy. All you have to do is write your Senator and then call them. I got a e-mail from them about the tax thing.

Optibike!!! This is the Papamotor thread, CigTech. Optibike...boooo.

Hey, are still commuting 40 miles to work on your pedal bike? I'm telling you...this is the kit (Papamotor 48v 1000w) you want to have.

@ cigtech;

the optibike is like over 10,000 dollars, so even after a 1200 dollar credit its still very expensive, the papamotor is a kit that can fit any suitable bike and costs a fraction of the optibike..its no contest as far as I am concerned.

sixiam hows the build going?

hey guys what do you all think of the dinotte range of lights, they sell a really cool and powerful 400 lumen rear light..

https://www.dinottelighting.com/

and the price is not too bad, for the above light(400 lumens) and also a front 1000 lumen light, the cost is around the 280 pounds...I think I may just have to go for it..

I think they're the best! I may be biased because that's the headlight I just bought. The DiNotte XML-3 1000 lumens.

SiXiam, look for any openings working for bicycle shops in your area. They can always use accounting assistance and you'll have access to all the bicycle tools and get parts for 1/2 off. Then you can sell them to Spirit733t and me for cost.

Also, go to google maps and select the "bicycling" option under labels on the far right. You should see all the bicycle paths and bicycle lanes in your area. Then look for jobs that are as close as possible to these green highlighted lines.

EBikeFL, Thanks again for your response.

I too would agree that the second video I posted is a bit hard core off road. The first one isn't so much. Thanks for mentioning Hi-Powercycles. They do seem a bit expensive, but it may have to go that route.

I did contact Papmotor and asked them some questions regarding off road use. Here are their responses (from multiple emails). They were very prompt.
=============
So pity that we recommend you not to use the motor as the manner in the video [(the first less extreme video I posted)]. Our motor can't support off road driving like that in the video.

And, by the way, our technician think the data in the video may be not correct if without riding as assistant.

If you have any more questions, just contact us. Thank you so much. Have good day.

Thank you for your reply.

The direct drive motor is powerful and fast, but it is big and heavy. It is not good at bumpy road and off road driving. If you do so, the frame, axle, and ball bearing may not support it well.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your reply.

We have not seen the failures from off-road use. But the motor is heavy, our technicians don't recommend buyer to do so. Your understanding will be appreciated very much.

Thank you again. And have nice day.
==========================

My question for owners is: Have you ridden off a street curb with no problems? I wouldn't make that a routine thing, but I am sure it would happen if I were the owner. I wouldn't want to own something so fragile that it couldn't handle that.

Thanks again.

I personally haven't ridden off a street curb only because I don't ride on the sidewalk. If your mountain bike is a down hill model with the rear shock, and you have big bubble tires such as the Maxxis Hookworm, and they are inflated to near max; then yes your e-bike should be able to handle the change in height from curb to street. Of course, going at 30+ mph you may loose control of the bike. At that speed, you don't have much time to correct any mistakes in steering or your center of gravity.

You may be interested in the stealth bomber https://www.stealthelectricbikesusa.com/bomber.html

Stealth electric bikes also have other models in the same price range with similar features to the bomber.

Here's a guy verifying on a stealth bomber that gravity is 9.8 m/s^2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=FL...&v=4aJFQNpFtkY

Thanks. I am talking about a very low speed maneuver. Stealth bomber is clearly out of my price range. I can barely justify spending something on the order of $1000. The actual payback period for me would be very long as I don't have a commute to quickly pay for itself.

@ wrusry

hello, how far is your work place?

maybe the best option for you is to buy two bikes, one for trails and one for the papamotor kit..

personally i would not buy a hi-power cycles, they seem to be over modded, over volted and over revved, I feel the components in there are highly stressed and as a result will not last..

even if your commute journey is quite long, you could invest in two batteries and that should get you at least 40 miles at the bare minimum, and you could charge the batteries at work for the commute home..

spirit733t:

My "commute" is either 0 miles, 180 miles or 12000 miles. I work at home when I am not travelling for work.

Thanks for your thoughts on hi-power cycles.

I'll do some research and let the thread know if I buy a Papamotor.

If there is anyone in Dallas or Austin, please PM me if you don't mind me taking a look at your system.

Peace.

The first Papamotor hub motor on a aftermarket performance rim with racing spokes AND 180mm brake disc!

I'm...I'm speechless (tears starting to form). Now the front and rear rotors match. The whole rear hub motor and rim have been reinforced. This setup can take anything I throw at it now.

There's still a lot of work to be done. I still have to true the rim and I'll have to manually dish the rim while it's on the frame. The next challenge is to get the Maxxis hookworm tire and hydraulic caliper to fit.

Hopefully, by the end of the weekend I should be back riding.

I also found another bicycle manufacture with the same high quality frame as Kona. I have an email to them to discuss possible large quantity orders and small modifications to their setup.

Stay tuned...more to come!
