battery change, sla to nimh etc

i bought an electric folding bike of ebay. Good deal i think, as its new, but been stored for two year in box.
SLA batterys were flat, so the seller had tried to charge the pack, without any luck. DEAD... Reading on forums he may have damaged the cells
as they would have possibly dried out.
The bikes is a 36v Mick Imaginarium aluminum folding bike.

Question is? i have 36v nimh bottle battery. From a cytronex electric bike. Can i wire the live and negative from the nimh
to the two terminals were the sla battery drops onto. then bike will work. Or will it violently implode.
If not do i stick with the sla. I probably strip down and replace the batterys like for like.
Or any recomendations or advice cheers

just quick update on previous. sorry to sound amateur on the help bit, but !!!!!!
just done the setup with nimh battery and been round the village, battery held the charge. dont no how long will give the full test at weekend... not the quickest, and on a hill you gotta pedal lol. but first time on ebike hence my electric questions. good with motorbikes this is new to me.
    Reckon im goin be hooked...
I needed to keep everything down to cost and managed this setup on 75 for bike and battery....patience on gumtree and ebay pays off eventually...

As you now know the type of battery does not matter. The only thing you'll need is a charger made for the type of battery you use. So DO NOT USE the SLA batteryCharger on the nimh battery. It would over charge and kill the battery.
May your feet keep move'n with the wind to your back.
