Just had a collision with a bird !

It was weird , I was zipping along around 22 MPH's down by the water, & a small flock about 5 of those acrobatic small gull like seabirds were right into me from the side they were jetting through the air really low, all made it past me but one who hit my spokes {he like rode them up, but didnt get stuck** I heard like a brrang then he was deflected into my face, LOl, no sh*t .
He flew off i think he might of made it. Wish I had in on video for Youtube especially if i ended up with a feather in my mouth { which i didnt **.But the rest of it's true.
I's like birds squirrels & other critters havent come across E-Bike's during their evolution & it freaks them out.

Good that both you and the bird are ok - mostly I dodge the squirrels.

Thanks, I never really felt as if i might crash but I had to re-compose myself a little mentally, i pulled over for a minute thinking like WTF just happened. Yeah the squirrels get all twitchy sometime it makes me laugh when that happens, their little fight or flee mechanisms get all out of whack.

I haven't hit any birds yet but I have scared up deer squirrels and rabbits. It happenes every time I'm on the mipower in the morning. It doesn't happen so much with the ODK as it motor is louder. I live right on the edge of the Desoto national forrest.

@Scalibooy62 Did it damage any spokes? What is the exact spoke size on the mipower btw? I just lost another one so I want to order a fancy set. My post count still isn't high enough to PM on this forum and I don't have your email. I want to tell you about a convo I just had w rmartin. You could shoot me an email at zydeco76 at gmail and I can edit this out later..

I'll shoot you an email, i'm like 99% sure they are 15 Gauge, I'll double check but cant do it now as i'm not home.
No damage, nor blood. Check out the bike with the decals removed, I figured it was a good idea not to have 36V 14 AH ELECTRIC blazen across the battery to keep it more incognito , I like the cleaner semi custom look without the decals, they peeled right of , a little WD-40 took care of the remaining adhesive. Now all you need to do is add a speaker cover to the battery and a discrete mp3 player/speaker setup and you could make the battery apear to be a boombox! It was the length of the spoke that were giving me issues. I called rmartin to ask them to measure the spokes but they wouldn't. They were however glad to SELL me some... I got a lil ticked off at that so I sent an email insisting they honor their warranty and send me a couple spokes. Once I have an unbroken mipower spoke in my hand I will have some custom high grade spokes made. So far I have replaced the two that broke with hand cut 14 gauge so I know the motor and rim will accept 14 gauge. Hey I noticed you went back to the stock seat post? Whats up with that?

I bet it couldnt hurt to go to 14 G, RMartin can be a little " Flakey " for the lack of a better word with some issues, they did really good by me first issue I had they were very generous I prefer not include the details , they also sent a new controller right out when it failed then the kickstand broke he promised me one in the mail ASAP & he never sent it, I got to thinking that I was OK with that { although maybe he shouldnt have promised & just blow me off **.
Zydeco,, good observation on the seatpost, what happened was the bike blew off the center stand couple weeks ago, I had it adjusted pretty high where the front wheel is off the ground by 3/4 inch or so & the Brooks saddle took the impact, it damaged the Tamer suspension post { play in bushings ** from all that weight & factor in the height also scuffed the leather a bit on the saddle. So I sent the post to Tamer for repair & really started to get into the bike as just a hardtail with the Brooks saddle, I picked up 1 MPH, no more grease on my hands when lifting the bike into my house the weight savings is noticable I never tryed the bike with Just the Brooks as a hardtail I added that saddle after the suspension seatpost & I really like it better as a hardtail with the brooks. Anyone want a good deal on a Tamer Pivot plus fresh rebuild from the factory with paper work ? lett me know .!

Yeah Man, cleaner look without the decals/stickers looks a lot better, check out this my Brooks saddle's rails snapped, I've lost count how many I've gone through I'm I think 4 & now the Brooks makes 5. I'm in contact with the retailer for warranty repair or replacement, I'm glad I registered it I believe they are a stickler for that if you need warranty work, I shoudve got the model with the springs, looks more HD, I think you have that one if I recall correctly. I had a decent backup saddle though for now so it's all good, but I might use the seatpost again but not sure, those posts save the saddle rails a bit I think.

I am fairly shocked to hear about your breaking rails. I have actually gained another 20lbs since I started riding (adding mscle) and I have't had and such issues on either bike. The ODK has a sorta flimsy saddle but its a big comfort saddle. The one on the ODK makes me sore but my wife loves it.. She is also over 100lbs lighter than me. The brooks flyer on the mipower is a tank. Even at my weight I can barely compress the springs. I want to mention since we are in this thread that I hit or rather a squirrel hit me yesterday. We have alot of them around here and the mipower freaks them out. The thing ran back and forth in front of me then ran smack into my tire...

I'm waiting for the warranty dept to approve the work or replacement, i tryid to post a picture but says file too large, snapped the rails in 2 , well one @ a time it felt different then other snapped, i need the bigger saddle, must be my riding style ? who knows.
that sucks about the squirrel, they get really spuirrely around these things, i feed them in my wild bird feeder in my back yard , i should say they help themselves to my bird seed mix gsGjB.jpg

You know... That the "only" way to avoid a squirrel it to aim right at it... That's what they are used to, avoiding predators that are going right at them...

He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts...for support rather than illumination. I do like my beer, so sometimes I do end up leaning on the lamp-post...
