Brakes for Xtreme XB-310Li
I recently bought an Xtreme XB-310Li which I am relatively pleased with. 300W isn't much but on straight ground you can get going quite fast without touching the pedals.
The one thing I am disappointed with is the disc brakes. They are dangerously bad, I live in fear of overshooting an intersection or going out of control on a steep hill because of how little stopping power they have.
I would like to replace the stock brakes with some aftermarket ones. Does anyone know if the XB-310li uses standard brake mounts? What brakes do you guys recommend?

If it uses standard brake mounts then you should try the Shimano XT M785 hydraulic brakes with 203mm Ice Tech rotors in the rear and if you can squeeze them up front as well if not 180mm. You'll never complain about stopping power again. 
The Ice Tech rotors are not included; they'll run you about $60 for the 203mm and $45 for the 180mm.
The M785 come as a kit so you don't need to bleed anything, just plug-n-play. Brake pads run about $24 each wheel when it's time for replacement.

Well, my main question is still whether or not the bike has standard mounts. I don't want to spend $250 on a set of brakes to find they won't fit!
A friend recommended Avid BB5 or BB7 brakes. I'm a fan of that idea because they are relatively cheap on eBay and I can keep my current brake levers and cabling. Do you have any opinion on these brakes?

Don't have the faintest idea whether it would fit your bike but well worth the effort to find out... JMO

I recently upgraded from the standard WinZip disk brakes to the AVID BB7 disk brakes with 160 mm rotors. There was not a real need to upgrade to 203mm rotors as the 160mm work well with the higher quality AVID disk brake calipers. The standard WinZip disk brakes were not great but given the purchase price there is plenty of room to upgrade components on this sturdy electric bike platform.

Yep, I ended up just buying a pair of Avid BB7's and was pleasantly surprised to find that the mounts are compatible. Note that if you want to upgrade the smaller back disk to a full sized one you will need a different spacer for the caliper mount, but the BB7's should work on the smaller disk with the stock spacer. I am using the stock brake levers since they seem to have a sensor integrated (I assume to cut motor power whenever you pull the brakes) and I was feeling to lazy to custom fit the sensor to a better lever. I also had to replace the brake cables because the crap stock ones were fraying (yikes!), but now my eBike stops like a champ!
