Bike Chain Size
Inspired by this videos i have started to build my own electric bike.
Please can you advise what Chain size have you used for this bike.
I believe it is not a standard bike chain.
Thanks for your help.
sorry for any inconvenience.
You may want to try ebikes.ca and their stokemonkey: http://www.ebikes.ca/store/store_stokemonkey.php
You can also adjust any bicycle chain by removing one or more links. ;)
To explain the problem bit more. I brought a kit from BHT Diffusion and discovered that the chain supplied by them with the kit is small. Hence I had no option but to replace it.
The chain supplied by them is TJC Link chain 1\2" × 1\8" with pin length of ' 8.7 mm '.
The closest to it i can find is bmx single speed Chain
Specification is 1/2" x 1/8" with pin length 10.7 mm
Please can someone advice what is Pin length and that different pin length makes any difference.
for width: 1/8" chains are used on single speed & fixed gear (includes BMX), while 3/32 is used on most 6-7-8 speed rear cogs. I think it is smaller for 9, and 10 speed cogs.
You can use a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 sprocket, but a 3/32 chain will not fit on a 1/8 sprocket (cog). Is that your problem???
From Sheldon brown:
- 1/8" (0.125", 3.18 mm) chain is used on most single-speed bicycles, and bicycles with internal gearing.
- 3/32" (0.094", 2.30 mm) chain is used on derailer equipped bicycles that have more than 3 cogs at the rear.
