Bionix electric bike controller set up and adjustments
Hi Folks,
I am a retired chap with only one good leg to peddle a bike with the other one allows me to stand up and walk a little bit but is no use for peddling,
I have in the last year purchased a Trek mountain bike with a Bionix electric motor and controller fitted by Trek as standard.
In my innocence/naivety I thought that I would be able to get the machine to move away from standstill just by pressing a button and then peddle to the best of my ability with some assistance from the motor.
How could I be so silly, no don't answer, you all probably know lots of the answers already.
Unfortunately the UK laws say that I am not allowed to do this on the road and the motor must be a maximum of 250 watts, so Trek/Bionix adhere to the law.
I then did a bit of researching and found that Canada and Europe the allow the use of the motor to move you from standstill.
I tried to contact Bionix UK no contact could be made so I tried Bionix Europe they were about as useful as a chocolate tea pot.
My next step was to try and contact Bionix Canada and ended up communicating with a Bionix dealership in New England who was very helpful and advised me that a remote unit that is mounted on the handle bars was the way to go. I purchased the unit and a couple of weeks latter I fitted it to my bike, the dealer sent me instructions on how to set it up with the codes to put into the controller. I have followed the instructions many times, it does not allow me to start from standstill and I still need to peddle a bit to start off.
Please can someone out there help sort it out, I am not concerned about the UK laws as I only cycle on cycle pathways and canal tow paths with our nine year old grand daughter.
Controller is Bionix G2 and the motor 200 - 250 watts with a 6a/H battery.

Hi, The BionX is set up so that you have to pedal to get it going to save some battery power as it takes a lot to get the bike moving from a stop compared to using that same power to keep moving, there is some adjustment as to what speed the motor starts to assist at... Code 3776 should allow you to lower the speed setting that the factory installed... I don't know how low you can set it, but there is some adjustment...

BIONX dealership in New England misled you great deal.
Look to me they don't know their products they sell.
by "remote unit on the handlebar" they mean simple Bionx throttle - very strange way to call ebike parts.
You must pedal first to approximately 4-5km/hour to activate throttle on any BIONX system.

Good luck with your bionx kit hammer.
As others have stated, you need to get underway before the unit kicks in so use any trick in the book, including starting out in the opposite direction if it is down hill , then pulling a u turn once you have power.

What you're looking to do is remove the minimum speed limit. This is not for the faint-of-heart.
I am not familiar with Trek's implementation of the BionX unit so this is all predicated on Trek using the standard BionX CANbus interface. If they did AND you can use a soldering iron, read on; if not, disregard.
Google "bigxionflasher." That will lead you to both the BigXionFlasher website and to a host of posts on this website and others by people who have done this, including yours truly. The project seems daunting at first, but it's not too bad. If you don't speak German (I do), just use Google's translate feature to translate the BigXionFlasher pages (some are English, some are German).
You need to order 3 parts and build an interface that gives you access to the dealer interface. Once you are in that interface, you can set minSpeedLimit = 0. This will give you what you want: power from a standstill. You can also set speedLimit = 0 which will remove the 25mph/32kph speed limit.
Of course, this probably voids your warranty. This post is for entertainment purposes only and is in no way meant to say you should actually go out and do this. Your mileage may vary. May cause dizziness, bleeding, or death in some individuals, etc, etc, etc.
