It's still having a problem with the firmware retaining the settings. So there's something weird going on with it. At this point the owner offered to either try and update the Firmware remotely on the motor I have, or I could swap the wheel for a new one. I decided on the latter and I've decided to move up to the 750 watt motor.

My reason for moving up is that this bike is for high speed commuting and right now, I have it on the Highest Level assist "5" all the time in the top gear I have on my bike. I've had it up to 35 mph with a wind at my back, so while it's plenty fast, I'd like to not be pushing the motor to it's limits all the time. I figure a 750 watt motor will give me a little more headroom.

Thanks for the update on that! With the 750 w motor will you also get a different battery and or is it a different voltage system? If not a new battery for the bigger motor would ypu risk losing some run time compared to the other motor? Anyway I it is nice to hear you Re making some headway on it and please keep us posted on the upgraded motor and how it works!

Yes. It comes with a 48V, 12 Ah Battery. It has ample range to get me to work and back with a stop at Starbucks and that's all I really need it to do. This bike was built for high speed commuting, range is secondary. My next bike will be built for comfort and range. I will definitely post an updated photo when I get the new kit installed.

Hi guys. Thought I'd post an update on my Hybrid e-bike. Have made quite a few changes since the last pic.

Upgraded the battery to a 48V system and replaced the Freewheel with an 11 tooth to get a higher top speed. Put on some e-bike rated Schwalbe Tires front and rear, repacked all the bearings and replaced my Clipless pedals with Shimano platform pedals. Also kind of cleaned up the wiring a little using some "Lizard Skin" that I cut up to wrap the wires so there are a lot less tie wraps on it now... Falco and I installed a brand new firmware program that allows it to cruise without interruption at speeds above 25 mph. She now has a cruising speed of 35 mph and has a top speed of 40+.

Incredible clean, clutter free installation. Pleasure to look at.
And 5 year warranty is the best in ebike industry.

Thanks powell! Having an in hub controller and wireless console really cuts back on the wiring. I love this thing. It works great. I just got back from riding it to the Gym and I already can't wait to ride it again.

Bah, humbug... I suspect that I would rather drive that Tesla than ride that bike any day...

Ha! You can blame the Tesla for my interest in e-bikes. I was hooked on electrics before I ever rode one.

35 and 40+ mph? Is that legal? Are the road conditions safe for commuting at that speed? I get that kind of speed on my scooter. I've hit some things in the road where I know I would have gone down if I was on a bicycle that had anything less than tires that were 2" wide. Looks great, though.

I only ride in the safest possible conditions and only off road if I'm going over the legal speed limit of 28 mph. Sounds to me like you're better off sticking to your scooter lest you break a hip! Safety first! To be honest, my 700c Hybrid does start feeling a bit sketchy at 35+. Between the wind and the spindly wheels, it can get... exciting. I tend to keep it under 30 for the most part. Not so much because of the width of the wheels as the height. 26 inch rims seem to be much better suited for higher speeds. Less flexion.

UPDATE: Found some "Super Jumbo" Lizard Skin at Amazon.com and it's large enough to wrap completely around all the wiring and even the battery connector. I think it's better protected from bumps and moisture fully wrapped this way.

I really like this stuff. Here's a link if anyone is interested in trying it out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll be sticking with the scooter when I need to go 35+ (none of my bicycles are going to hit that speed anyway unless I'm going down a pretty good sized hill.) Sometimes I'll see road repairs that are a long bead of type of rubbery/tar material that are run for quite a distance. I've hit those on the scooter and it causes a surprising wiggle. With my 23mm or 28mm bicycle tires I think I'd be fortunate to keep the wheels facing the pavement at a high speed. Not only that, I've been on some roads where the fissures/cracks are wide enough that they would eat up my bicycle tires if I hit them just right. It sounds like you're being careful and cautious. Just don't be tempted to take that bike at 40+ mph in unknown conditions. My ebike is limited at 20mph... there are times when I'd like it to be at 28mph.
