iPhone 5S user.
There's the iOS Health app, and then there's -
Cyclemeter
LoseIt
MapMyRide (and mywalk, and myfitness...)
MyFitnessPal
And so it goes - and that's all before I get to the Jawbone UP doodad app.
Has anybody figured out a combination of apps to connect that maintains simplicity while getting adequate feedback?

"Simplicity" and "adequate feedback" are in the eye of the beholder; my answer might be too complicated for your taste, the next guy's might be too simplistic and not adequate enough.
For starters what do you want from your gadgets and apps?

Sometimes my answers occur to me as I post and read about my own topics.
I want to track sleep, daily steps, diet, exercise (gym), and cycling and have them all feed to one app so I can scroll through screens and get the info without having to open and close each individual app.

You mentioned a Jawbone UP app, so I'm going to assume you have a Jawbone. It'll count your steps and track your sleep for you; I assume it has a web site paired to its phone app where you can look your data up if you want to. Set that up on your phone if you haven't already.
You mentioned MyFitnessPal (MFP for short). People use this mostly for diet and/or weight loss. Go sign up for an account there. Connect it to your Jawbone account. (At the top of the screen click APPS, then under App Marketplace you'll see Jawbone UP and you'll want to click the "get app" button below it.)
Once you do those two tasks, your steps and other exercises should flow into MFP. If the Jawbone app supports diet, that info should just show up magically there, too. You should be able to go into either site and see pretty much the same data. I don't think you'll see anything about how you slept in MFP because it doesn't deal with that, but it'll be like two different windows that both have a view of your driveway.
Try that for starters. Don't want to get too complex all at once.

I like to use/sync Strava and MFP.
Strava has the best calorie estimator for cycling that I've seen. And can sync it so that after each ride, it adds that exercise to MFP.
Then when you go to log food into MFP, it will say that you've burned X calories so now you can eat Y calories for the rest of the day.
That's about as sync'ed as I need it to maintain/lose weight.
