Best way to strap my headlight battery to my toptube?
I have a Light & Motion Seca 2000 and after one or two uses of strapping it tightly to the toptube of my MTB the plastic buckle on the otherwise burly velcro strap cracked. Since then I've been using the much slimmer velcro strap from an old Niterider unit and it has held for the most part but the battery does tend to wiggle loose with plenty of bumpy trail and a couple times now I've had the battery actually slip its way out of the strap and dangle by the cord, about to fall into wheel/pedal/ground/etc.
So how best to carry this battery? I was kinda thinking about trying to find some other burly velcro straps (the stock one was like 2" width so it cradled the battery very well) but I'm open to suggestions.
You can buy buckles from camping stores in a variety of sizes/materials. You could even buy a metal ladderlock (if that is the part that broke) from several suppliers online.
I take what someone I used to work with called 'the belt-and-suspenders' approach; velcro it on, and throw a couple of toe straps around it...many shops will have boxes of them around, and while they may not be free, you'll be able to put your hands on it to see if it will work.
