Garmin Edge 25 help?

I just bought a Garmin Edge 25, took three rides with it last week, and after a day-and-a-half of issues with Garmin Connect finally got an account and uploaded the rides. I also synced it with Ride with GPS, which I had registered with earlier. (I'm looking at Ride with GPS because I can get free premium membership if I join a semi-local bike club.)

I know, I always seem to feel a need to start with a preamble...So here comes what I would like help with: Does anyone know of a way to upload rides to Garmin without attaching the Edge to your computer or smart phone? I really would like to upload while touring. In particular, the Edge unit has Bluetooth but it seems to only work with smart phones, something that I don't have or intend on getting. (BTW, I don't see a way to actually turn off Bluetooth, to extend battery life, as all that comes up in the Edge menu when I search is an option to link with a smart phone--so maybe it turns it on and then back off when it finds nothing?) I would really like to connect with my wifi-only iPad, but that doesn't seem possible, or at least I don't know how as it doesn't show up in the iPad's Bluetooth search. I've searched the internet looking for iPad apps or hacks to enable syncing, though I think that the issue may be on the Garmin side. I've also thought about trying a lightning to usb cable (available for connecting some cameras to an iPad), but the iPad does not send power to the lightning plug and, from what I've read, I might also need a power source and a jail-broken iPad (or maybe not!) for anything to be recognized through the lightning port. Funny, though, as my PC recognizes my iPad when I connect it and has no trouble pulling off pictures.

Thanks for any help, even if its just to tell me there is no solution given my constraints.

Edit: BTW, I did email Garmin for help but haven't heard back.

I used my Garmin Edge 200, and 705 with my google chrome book. The 22 hour battery life of the "Lezyne Super GPS" also works with the chromebook. Maybe a plug powered USB port to iPad would let you save the files to iPad and upload them to the "Ride with GPS" web site Ignoring Garmin Connect.

I use Strava and Map-My-Ride as Garmin Connect requires software to be installed on your computer, where Strava and Map-My-Ride are web based instead of requiring a software install. To me Garmin Connect should be a web browser extension, not software that needs to be downloaded and installed to the computer or phone.

Something I suggested to them 4 years ago...

While Garmin devices do not support wired connections with an iPad, some Garmin mobile apps may support wireless data transfer with your device. For more information regarding compatibility, visit the product page for your app. For a full list of available apps, visit the Apps page on Garmin.com.
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-t...-cApps-p1.html

Reading the three Apps listed on Garmin's website, it does not appear they give you any mobile apps compatible with the iPad that allow for wireless communication.

Here is another method - Old info: https://forums.garmin.com/archive/in...p/t-27933.html

Thanks, I've tried the Garmin forum. There is very little discussion of the Edge 25 so far, and it doesn't have a memory card. As far as I can see, there are only two ways to get the data off the unit: usb to computer or Bluetooth to smart phone. I agree that the requirement of installing special software just to upload the data adds another hurdle. What I really can't understand, however, is why the unit cannot connect using Bluetooth with an iPad when it can do so with an iPhone. Oh well, another example of life's little disapointments...

Personally, I don't have a tablet; if I did, I wouldn't care if the data uploaded through it or through my phone as long as it got where I need it. I'm guessing at the numbers, but probably 99 % of the Edge units ever sold are used with a USB computer or a smart phone. It would be nice to have more options to get at the data, but somewhere along the way a project manager weighs the costs (hardware, software development, battery) against how widely a feature will be used, and makes a decision.

Do you need to see the data while you're on tour? I would think the map is the most interesting part and you must already have that worked out...?

Getting around not having, or wanting to carry, a smart phone is my constraint. Yeah, I use Galileo, which is an iOS app with offline display of gpx files, such as OpenCyclingMap and OpenStreetMap.

I may have just found a solution--or at least something I can test when I feel better. I was searching for iOS Garmin Connect and noticed a link for the mobile app, which I recall not being able to download before. If I recall correctly, it told me it was incompatible with my device. Anyway, this link worked. More important, on the third try of launching and syncing it worked! Of course, I still need to try uploading a new ride, but I'm eating chicken noodle soup and staying out of today's snow fall. I'll post my results later in case anyone is in a similar situation.

If you downloaded Garmin Connect Mobile, paired it with your Edge, and got it to sync, then you're good to go. In Garmin land, sync means check to see if anything needs to be uploaded, and send it up if needed. You could test it by hitting start, letting it record for a few minutes, and hitting stop; you can even delete the dummy ride it'll post on Connect for you. Or, just wait for tomorrow.

I have an Edge 25.

You cannot transfer rides/courses over WIFI. You can upload courses to and download rides from the Edge 25 via Bluetooth from a smartphone.

I don't know why you can't pair the Edge 25 to your iPad via Bluetooth and can't imagine why it wouldn't be supported. I have it paired with an iPhone 6 running IOS 8.4. There were a lot of problems pairing with 8.1 so you may want to upgrade your iPad if not already. The only other suggestion I have is to make sure the Edge 25 is updated to the latest firmware, version 3.0. Use Garmin Express to update it if it is not already 3.0.

If you do get it to pair with an iPad then you are good to go. Just download the mobile app as Seattle Forest said above and you can sync all you want.

Mine is version 3.0 firmware and Bluetooth can be turned on/off under Settings --> Bluetooth - Turn on/off.

Believe me or not, I couldn't get Garmin Connect Mobile to show up in iTunes last week unless I switched to iPhone-only, and then it said my device was incompatible when I tried to download it. I think that some revision happened; at least that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. I also know that I read in either my paper manual or somewhere online that the Edge 25 did not support Bluetooth with iPad, only smart phones, though it may have been in reference to some other feature than uploading.

In any case, yes now I've synced, and as soon as I recover my health, I will take a ride and try uploading through my iPad rather than my PC. Seems that my touring issue will be solved!

Well, I am still recovering from a classroom full of flu-ridden students, so I haven't taken another bicycle ride. I did, however, drive to a grocery store for more chicken noodle soup and turned on the Edge to collect data. When I got home, I synced up with my iPad and got the ride to upload, though I had to quit Connect and relaunch it before it actually uploaded the ride. In any case, the ride is online with Garmin and was online with Ride with GPS before I deleted it. I also deleted the ride from my Edge, though I will have to read some directions in order to learn how to delete the ride from the Garmin web site.

Yeah, I'm pretty ecstatic! I wish the Garmin directions had been clearer. Even the customer service rep who emailed me from Garmin just said that I had to use USB with a computer or a smart phone with Bluetooth. Once again, I think that either the latest update to the Edge or an update to Connect (most likely) made it possible to sync using an iPad.

How to delete a ride from Garmin Connect

Pull the activity up in Garmin Connect, and do this in your web browser, not in GC Mobile. You'll go to a url like this to do that:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1000000000

At the top-right corner of the page you'll probably see some things like "Sports" and "Health and Fitness" with blue or white text on a black background. Just below that, on the far right edge of the page, you should see a gray gear in front of a white background, it will be next to several other icons. Go ahead and click the gear. A menu will open up. The very last item in the menu is delete.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe this will be easier:

Go to this url:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activities

Click the checkbox next to the activity you recorded (driving to the store), and then click the Delete link near the top of the page, above the "Activity Name" column heading.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps!

I just purchased one of these today. It is my first Garmin (or any such device). Pairing to my iPad mini via Bluetooth went very smoothly, as did the rest of the set-up. My first snag was trying to pair my Wahoo BlueSC+ (with ANT+) to the Edge 25. I cannot get it to be recognized. It bluetooth-pairs with my iPad, and ANT+ pairs with my mac computers from 25 ft away when I have an ANT+ USB dongle installed, so I am fairly confident the problem isn't at the Wahoo end. This is a disappointment. When trying to troubleshoot, I also came across a number of complaints that the satellite connection has to be turned off in order for the speed sensor data to be used.

Is the speed data this thing calculates via satellite uplink reasonably accurate?

I'm thinking of returning this for a 520, but the form factor and price are quite favorable.

Have you tried the Garmin forum concerning your issue with syncing the Wahoo?

As for speed accuracy, I don't have an independent speedometer to use for comparison.

I just rode a century on Sunday and was disappointed that my Edge 25 batt died at mile 97.98. I too have ver. 3.0 firmware but not the option to turn off Bluetooth as you have? Only line item under Bluetooth is "Pair Smartphone". I turned off the Lap timer to save battery, will turning off GLONASS help save battery life?

PS this forum is painful trying to type posts...must go very slow or letters will be skipped.

Miles ridden is not a very useful measure of battery life. I leave Bluetooth on all the time, and I ride with a cadence device. On my longest ride of 6 hours, I still had battery life, though it was only a sliver.

Battery life

On Saturday my Edge gave me a low battery warning after 7 hours and 23 minutes. At exactly 8 hours it saved my ride and shut off. Fortunately, I only had about two more miles to ride. It was a slow metric century with a long stop for bbq. I wish Garmin would update the app, assuming they haven't already, so that you can turn it off and resume!

I order this today and it will come this week.

It can use any mount (cost $4.50) that is for Garmin with 1/4 turn right? I read the tie down that came with it is not durable.
