heart monitor problems w sigma rox 5.0
anyone have a similar problem with their sigma rox 5.0 heart rate monitor?
mine refuses to 'refresh' on a consistent basis. i can be pedaling comfortably and the read-out will register, say, 132. i can stand and pedal hard up an incline and the read-out continues to register the same 132 when suddenly, perhaps near the top of the incline, it will jump to 184. when i coast downhill at resting pace it will jump back down to, say, 124, but not incrementally, just suddenly.
i called rox and the technician suggested moving the chest strap closer to the heart side of my chest, which i did but to no avail. i use electrode gel which seems to help but just a bit. the only other chest monitor i used in the past was for running years ago; it was a polar brand and i did not have this problem. i got constant updates on the wrist monitor. that's why i'm wondering what is wrong with the rox monitor. this problem with the rox makes it pretty much useless. it also will not record an accurate 'maximum heart rate' for rides.
anyone have any idea about what's happening and any suggestions for correction? do all bike monitors behave like this?

Yes, my Rox 5 does exactly the same thing. I bought two heart monitors, one came with a fabric band the other a plastic band. The fabric one worked very well for a couple of months and then started acting up as yours did. I tried re positioning the monitor, licking it, pouring water on it and finally the gel. Still had problems. I then tried the plastic band monitor and had the same problem. I would guess the fault is with the computer instead of the monitor. I will call Sigma and see if they can help.

rox 5 heart rate monitor problems
hello on my way.
since i posted this rox heart rate monitor problem i had some good luck with soaking the entire chest strap just before using it. i squeezed as much excess water as possible before putting it on and then used gel as well. this seemed to help quite a bit.
i have ordered the garmin edge 520 and i'm interested to see how its monitor will work, compared to the rox. if interested, i'll post the results. the strap for the garmin is different from the rox, and the monitor is different also (at least it looks different though i'm sure they must all share technologies).
