SpurCycle Bell

Has anyone surged on the SpurCycle bell? I just ordered it from a 3rd party on Amazon with no shipping. I know it's costly but I just couldn't resist. Who has it?

The ringer mechanism seems better than the clapper type ringer on my current bell. Tempted, but it's pricey.

It's pricey, and I can't really justify the value, but I do like mine. It's very tidy, compact, and well made and the mounting system is pretty slick. One of the few bells that doesn't look obnoxious on a road bike. Perhaps most importantly, it's VERY loud, and there's a long decay before the sound fades.

The Oi bell has a pretty slick design, but it's still a Kickstarter campaign and not a shipping product yet: Knog - Oi Bike Bell

I got one (silver not black) as a Christmas present a couple years ago when it was being funded through kickstarter. A very elegant, low profile, and well made bell. A bit tinny sounding, but since it's made from steel and not brass, it's to be expected. It looks quite good on my road bike with aluminum fenders, better looking IMHO than the previous stem mounted bell that I bought from VO.

+1

I splurged for a black one for my road bike. Now I'm trying to decide whether to pick up a silver one for my new commuter bike.

I got one when it was on Kickstarter. It's certainly nice, and works well. It has a nice, loud ring, and it's easy to modulate the volume. But even for a $35 Kickstarter pledge, the price is ridiculous, never mind the current retail price. I actually clicked "pledge" by mistake, and decided I'd just go with it. I don't regret it, but I don't consider it my most sensible purchase ever.

Own two of them, black and silver. Pricey for sure, but I really like the sound and the small size.

I have two of them. First one was Kickstarter, and it lives on my commuter/ race bike. The Second was a bike shop splurge, for a fixie.

Was trying to go cheaper and get the $15 bell. But it was just so ugly, that I decided to F it and went all out.

This is the bell I have also, and I'm happy with it.

I think of a bike bell as more of a musical instrument than, say for example, the horn on my car. If anyone here is into musical instruments you know the impulse to spend whatever amount of money to get something that produces just the right sound....

.....then again I'm the kind of person who daydreams about making doorbells out of cowbells or "found objects"..... if I thought I could get away with it I'd strap some bars from a marimba onto the handlebars or my bike, or make "hubs" out of a couple of crash cymbal that I could somehow operate with a hand-brake lever or something..... So take my POV with a grain of salt.

I have this bell. It's damn expensive but it is a terrific bell. Can be very loud and seems to have a nice penetrating sound that gets attention.

I really hate yelling "on your left" or something. Seems that no one ever knows what to do - some think they need to go left and get right in the way. With a bell like this, you can ring it far enough in advance and let them figure out where they are going to go and do and then adapt to them.
