General GPS Question

I've looked over all the specs on the Garmin and TomTom websites and can't find an answer to this question. Do typical automotive GPS units let you record your travels and download the data to your computer, or do only the ones made specifically for biking and hiking do that?

Thanks,
Randy

Automotive GPS devices will allow you to record your "track" and download to you computer. The information included usually contains: location coordinates, heading, speed, altitude, leg length, date time stamp. I use Garmin devices so others may vary.

Thanks. The Garmin Nuvi 600 series is what I'm looking at. I'm hoping to use one device both for the car and to record bike trips.

Two things:

1. Garmin's website says the Nuvi 600 is sold only in Europe
2. I don't think it'll work on just batteries
3. How would you attach it to your bike?

If you insist on getting one GPS for both, get the "eTrex Legend Cx." You can even get a bike mount for it.
