Garmin Nuvi 360 handlebar mount?
I bought my wife a Garmin Nuvi 360 GPS and she's been really happy with it, navigating around Boston and environs.
But it is so small and light (4"x3"x1", 5 ounces) and has such a great screen that it would be spectacular as a bike GPS. Except there's no mount. The RAM motorcycle mount is mighty bulky, and about $40. Anyone cobble something together? Setting something up with the stock suction cup mount is possible but there must be a more elegant solution. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/as...0/en/rf-lg.jpg |
I'm hoping to do the same thing for a dc-phili bike trip. Auto routing would be nice. Can you exclude highways with the Nuvi or predetermine the route?

I found a few options on ebay.

My buddy bit the bullet and bought the mount. It's heavy, but you don't have to worry about it coming off when you hit a bump.
You cannot preassign a route (unless someone knows something I don't) but you can set it for no highways etc.... |

This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorcycle-Bike-...QQcmdZViewItem There is a cheaper smaller one on Ebay but he wanted one that the unit "could" not fall out of when hitting a bump. He's also not a weight weenie ans was very satisfied with their ship time. |
I've run into a similar problem as far as gps mounting goes. I have a Garmin c330, I5, and an I3, All of which I love but none of which seem robust enough to withstand bicycle vibrations and being exposed to the elements. The devices made for otorcycles are tough and waterproof but expensive! So I looked and researched and I think I've found the perfect solution- Mapping handhelds from Garmin ie eTrex or Rino or one of those. They are made for hiking, are waterproof and shock proof and you can actually buy a bike mount for them! Im loading maps into my eTrex Venture CX right now.

I have a Vista CX and will soon be selling it to get an HCx (which has the high sensitivity receiver). But the Nuvi's touch screen is much more convenient.
