Edge 305 - problem communicating with PC

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this problem and if so, what you did to correct. Here's the situation:

I'm a MTB rider and use Geoladders to download courses first to my Garmin Training Center and then to my Edge. I've never had a problem in the past until today. When I attempted to send a course from Training Center to the Edge, I get a message saying there was an error communicating with the device and to make sure it was plugged in, which it was. I've tried reseting the unit but still get the same message. I installed the software on another computer to make sure that was not problem and I get the same message. When I plug the USB cable in, both computers recognize the unit but when I try to download history or send anything to it, I get the message.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Brian

Brian,

You are not alone here. I am having the exact same issue. I have reset the Edge, re-installed the USB drivers, rebooted the laptop, etc. Not solved at all.

I was able to download my data just fine into SportTracks and Mapsource could talk to the Edge just fine. So the problem appears to be Training Center. I have the latest version of it installed but don't have an older version to try.

Anyone else encounter this?

Craig

I did. I re-installed the drivers & that seems to have solved it.

1) Reload Garmin's software (might take 3 or 4 tries on the Webupdater):
Webupdater: https://www8.garmin.com/products/webu...wtoinstall.jsp
USB Driver: https://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ils.jsp?id=591

2) Call Garmin Tech Support:

Hours of Operation
* Monday - Friday
* 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
* Central time (closed holidays)

Phone
* 1-800-800-1020 (U.S.)
* 1-866-429-9296 (Canada) or (913) 397-8200

The links take you to the USB drivers page. I had some success early on when I reinstalled the drivers but I do get the occasional error.

FWIW, I just tried my Palm Pilot USB cable. It had a tighter fit and worked on the first try. The unit even says "Battery Charging in Progress". Could the cable be the problem?

Thanks Man. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn't work. I searched the forums, found your suggestion to try a few times, and bullseye.

Thanks!

I just keep hitting the file/"import from device" item in training center, sometimes takes 4-5 tries.
