Acorn Bags
 

Ok, I'm not sure where to put this, but bags seem like a gadget, so...

I'm looking at getting a set of bags for my bike. (I've got a Trek 700 Multi-track which I love)

I've been looking at Acorn bags and Frost River bags. I'd like to get a handle bar bag and a rear large bag. Has anyone had an experience with either of these bag's on the handle bar of a hybrid before. I've still got the semi-flat bars, but am thinking of trading out for some mustache bars or something nicer soon.

I just got the medium Acorn bag and so far I love it. I just might be the perfect bag! It's large enough for all my tools, spare tube, patch kit, levers, wallet, cell phone, smokes, first aid kit, etc, with room to spare to stuff a jacket. It also has D rings for strapping on whatever....wet jacket, road morph, etc.

It has two zippered side pockets plus a zippered pocket under the flap. The material seems sturdier than the Frost River (I have one of those, plus a couple of Carradice bags and assorted other bags...I am always on the lookout for a better bag to suit my needs ;)) It also includes a blinkie loop, unlike the Frost River, plus a nylon compression bag under the flap...so it is easily more water resistant than the Frost River.

He also offers his bags with straps for the Brooks bag loops, or for saddle rails...the Frost River only does saddle rails. It's also less expensive than the Frost River.

I have no doubt that I'll be buying more of these medium bags...and probably one of the larger bags when I feel like replacing my Carradice Barley...which is getting a bit worn.

Enough room for your smokes, eh? I didn't think there were too many other smoking cyclists out there, with the exception of NY fixie enthusiasts. I've pretty much quit now, but people always used to think that it was weird that I was a smoker AND a cyclist.

This is good to hear. I placed an order for the small and large bags in tan. I think this will work out nicely.

I have a question about the large Acorn bag. I bought one last year, and while it's a really nice bag, i have a problem with the design. It mounts just like shown in the pictures on their site: http://acornbags.com/lgbag.html

It's like it was designed to be vertical, but when actually mounted on the bike, is turned between 45 and 90º on its side. Basically asking for the stuff in the side pockets to fall out. I haven't lost anything yet, but no longer use the bag because I would get paranoid about losing my iPhone or wallet or other stuff that would naturally go into the side pocket.

The other thing is the blinky loop on the back. Again, if the bag was upright, it would face straight out, but instead it points toward the ground because of the rotation of the bag.

I just don't get it. Makes no sense to me. I'm thinking of buying one of those 'hoop' saddlebag supports, but I just don't get why they didn't design it right in the first place.

personally i use a bagman rack, theyre getting tricky to find, but theyre amazing! itll put the bag where it was actually designed to be(which seems to have nothing to do with the pics on the site!!!!). yesterday i got my large, small, and tool roll bags. just awesome. waaaaay better than carradice(blasphemy i know....especially from a carradice owner!!!!). the only nit i have is on the large bag and thesize of its side pockets. i think theyre a bit small.....perfectly fine, but itd be awesome if they were bigger and "squarer", if that makes sense.......

all in all an amazing set of products though.

According to their website they aren't taking anymore orders right now so that they can complete the orders already placed. Too bad because I am seriously interested in one. I do have a question though for the people who have one of their bags(or multiple ones). How well do these perform in the rain? Does stuff stay pretty dry on the inside?

my handlebar bag got pretty well soaked one day that i had it hanging off the back of my saddle. everything in it was a-ok....dunno how a cell phone or something may have faired, but it did a plenty good job for me!!
