Exclamation New lighting technology - amazing brightness

Wow, someone sent me the link on this one. Check it out:

I think someone might have been on drugs though, I have not seen a 400 watt led yet.

I think I understand what is trying to be said. These lights use microwave energy to make the gas in the bulb glow. NASA has been working with these, especially for hydroponic use in space. The 250 watt bulb would produce as much light as a 400 watt LED (if one were to exist that is). So the efficiency is really superb for these types of lights. LED technology is making leaps and bounds still and I suspect that this level of light output will be matched soon.

Can the miniaturize the microwave generator and light to be portable? We'll see. I suspect this will be a commercial/industrial technology and we will probably rely on LED for portable lighting.

An article back in 2001:

They claim they can get 140 lumens/watt (double current LEDs), but the folks who make LEDs say that in the lab they are reaching this point (~140) already.

So it's a microwave-driven HID? Interesting.
