As an investment, probably not. A better charger will probably result in more cycles from your cells, but given that a whole new set of cells are around $11.00, I'm not sure I new charger will pay for itself anytime soon. That said, I'm glad I have both a Maha MH-C9000 and Maha MH-C808M. The first is a cell analyzer/conditioner, in addition to a charger; the second is a very gentle charger that also handles C and D size cells. Thomas Distributing is a recommended vendor of chargers and high quality cells.

It depends on a variety of factors, including the age of the cells. Like many others, I've had bad luck with Energizer 2500s holding a charge. After perhaps 20-30 cycles, some would lose significant capacity after just a couple of days. This is where the Eneloops shine: they are Low Self Discharge, and they lose very little capacity when just sitting around for a few weeks.

Not the Slowest

I made the plunge for the Fenix L2D Premium and I am VERY VERY Impressed.
Attached it to my helmet with Rubber bands until I figure a better way, put it on Turbo and It got me noticed, which was a goal I was seeking.

I heard one passerby state "Must be a new Police Bike" LOL. Of course in certain higher crime neighborhoods which I go through, that may not be want I want.

My commute is about 1:40 so the Sanyo Eneloop batteries lasted for the entire trip. Got a pack at Costco of 8 AA and 2 AAA for $18.00.

I still need to get a better charger and work on a better mounting. The mounting holder from fenix does not do the job as is on my helmet. It works fine on the handlebars, so I'll see perhaps getting another later on or the Dinnotte when they go on sale.

If I play with the mouting fixture I am sure I can make it work on the helmet, I just want it to be removable.

They are impressive.

The Q5 is even better when you decide to buy a second one and we know you will.

I've always attached mine to my helmet with rubber bands and haven't felt I've needed a better way to do it. I did slide the light through a section of old tube for some grip though.

edit: wait a minite, I bet you have the Q5, eh?

OOOPS I do have the Q5.
I agree on the old tube trick, one night when I have a moment I'll get it done.
I did raise the angle a bit since I wanted the beam directed a bit further ahead of me. I just wrap a few rubberbands around the barrel it and that did the trick.

Yep, me too. I have it placed fairly far back on the helmet to accommodate the forward riding position.

Not the Slowest

After more than 6 months I am still very happy with my Fenix Q5, but have a few issues before I get a second light.

a) The long tube can get bumped by my hand as I swith positions, A minor issue
but something worth mentioning.
b)The tube can block my cue sheet when I use one. During the day I take the light off and slip it in my jersey, at night is still an issue to be worked out.
c) The strobe 180 lumens is great to be seen , I do find some people scared by it. That perhaps is a plus.
d) I do wish that the steady high mode was more than 100, perhaps there is another AA light out there as I do not want to go to another charger, battery set-up etc.
e) My batteries last for my commute which is about 1 :35 - 1:45 in time. When they go low I pull over and swap them out in say 2 minutes. Works for me. If I know I will be riding longer then I make sure a fresh pair go in in the morning before I leave home. My bag has a pair of eneloops just in case. I do find that I get the same 1:45 out of them, but not much longer.

So now I have to choose.
Dinnotte 200L when it goes on sale again
or
Fenix Q5 AGAIN

You are mistaken, The steady high mode (Fenix calls it 'turbo') is 180 lumens.

I have a pair of these things and the strobe is close to what I would call seizure inducing.

I used my L2D Q5 helmet mounted last night. I'm very impressed! On very dark sections of my ride under bridges, etc. I had all the light I needed. But I can see how I might add one to the handlebars.
