Garmin 305 Cadence Sensor Problems

Has anyone else had problems with the cadence sensor for the Garmin 305? Garmin just replaced mine for the 2nd time. The first one started draining batteries overnight (sitting in the garage). The second one simply stopped working. I tried all the resets that the tech recommended and they finally replaced it also. Is this a common problem? If this one dies I'm just going to give up in frustration.

I might add that Garmin has been very good about replacing them, although their response time for support inquiries is a bit slow.

If you are investing more than $12 in shipping units back to Garmin, just go to Wal-Mart and get a $10 Schwinn wired cyclometer. Cut a mounting bracket for the sensor out of sheet metal and hang it from your water bottle mounts on the seat tube so the sensor is near a crank. A paper pattern will help you get the mounting bracket right the first time. Tape the magnet to the inside of the crank with black electrical tape. Set the cyclometer to read in Km/Hr and set the wheel size to 1667. When reading, ignore the decimal point. The digits will be your cadence. See more on this at Instructables.com under "$12 cadence meter."

I am still using my original sensor from my 305 purchased in March of 2006. I have heard of isolated issues but not two problems back to back with the same person.
