Computer is cutting out
 

My bike computer is a Sigma Sport BC 1200 wireless. On a ride this evening, it would cut out for a while, showing 0 km/h while I was riding. Then a little while later it would be back to normal. It did this several times throughout the ride. Any ideas what might be wrong?

A few things :

– dead battery in the transmitter
– interference (maybe)
– a slightly too large space between the magnet and transmitter (quite likely)

Your comp battery may be low too. My wireless Sigma acted all weird, but the display was still readable so I thought it cannot be the computer's batteries. After eliminating pretty much everything else I changed the comp battery and that fixed it. At that point I also realised how dim the display had gone as the battery kept getting weaker.

Some tools to help you determine where the signal is lost:

I seem to remember Sigma wireless transmitters make an audible "click" when wheel magnet passes the sensor (a reed switch, I believe). Mine also had a test function, a blinking led in the handlebar mount, to indicate signal reception. If the signal is OK all the way from the magnet to the mount, then it's either your computer batteries, or a bad connection between the comp and the mount. Or interference, as Michel suggested. Not sure how to test for that, except eliminating everything else.

Try running it in mph. Miles are better than klicks because they are american!!!!!

I have a similar problem with my comp. It is a trek (don't know who makes it for them). I do not have wireless. I thought I had it troubleshot down to bad wiring, but, it still happens on occasion, almost always at the begining of my ride. Wiggling the Comp in it's mount usually fixes it which leads me to believe it is a dirty contact between the comp and the mount.

But since you are wireless, I guess it doesn't apply. Maybe you have bad reception. Try hanging a piece of tin foil off your comp. It worked on the TV when I was a kid.
