Home Depot Flashlights
While having some keys made today at Home Depot, I wandered over to the flashlight section. They have added a line of tactical LEDs by Coast. I bought a 3 x AAA light that was advertised as having an output of 142 lumens for $38. I had a $50 gift certificate, so I even had enough left over for some rechargeable AAAs.
It is broad daylight here in Texas now, but I will take some shots of it and post them later.
Here is a link to coast. Their site does not show the light I bought.

This is the closest, but mine is a 7736CP

So, I could not find the mount to put my camera on the tripod, so no beam shots.
The Coast has a very focused beam with very little spill, so it needs to be supplemented with another light.
I used an old cateye mount, the dremel and zip ties to mount the light on the bars. Strapped the Coleman Max 2 x AA light to my helmet. The Coleman is pretty floody, so the combination of the two gave me decent throw and spread. Every bit as good as my 6v 15W Marwi Nightpro Torch bar mount.
I may end up running the Coleman and the Marwi on the bars and the Coast on the helmet.
Will try to get some beam shots soon.
BTW, the Cateye/zip tie mount was just for testing. I have lock blocks and bike blocks on order (back order actually) from the Fenix store.
Oh, and the Coast light came with a link inside for a "free" pocket LED light. Have to pay $4 or so in shipping, but I went ahead and sent in for it. Will let ya'll know what I end up getting for "FREE" so that you can maybe avoid wasting $4 to get a real piece of crap.

I just went to Home Despot (SIC) and couldn't remember the Make/model you got and wound up getting the Husky 3 watt (Cree) tactical for $21. Seems Kind of bulky for a 3 AAA battery light, but packaging rates it up to 145 lumens.
Not as bright as my retina burner halogen home build, but probably enough to use as backup (batteries will probably last longer too). Also It's much easier to throw the new one on and go at a moment's notice...than have to plan 4 hrs ahead for freshly charged batteries that will last about 40 minutes a pop. (still need to spend the $$$ for a smart charger that so I can just leave the batteries for the halogen in and charging without worrying about burning them up)
I'll be testing it tonight on my commute home from work. If it does well I'll get another one for the wife.
Thanks for the heads up about Home Depot!

I have two Flare 5 AAA lights mounted on the top of my handebars from Performance Bike and a Coast 7736 mounted underneath with a Fenix flashlight mount from Deal Extreme in HK. Great boatloads of light. All powered by rechargeable Accu-loop AAAs. I ride with the blinkers until well after dusk and turn everything to continuous on the trail coming home.
