Garmin 305 Forerunner
 

This is the wrist model ! Made for runners I think but it is also made for cyclist swimmers and walkers they say also . Anyone here have one and if so what do you think about it? Pros and cons . The reviews seem to be good on Amazon . Being on my wrist wouldn"t bother me as I wear giant Casio Pathfinder watches anyway .

I bought one for my wife for Xmas. I used it today on the bike for the first time -- very cool.

I think it probably does everything the edge 305 does for the bike -- I mounted a cadence and wheel sensor kit on my wifes bike.

Also, from what I here the Edge version has a crappy mount. The bike mount for the forerunner seems fine. The one on my wifes bike is a clip thingy that lets her take if off a velcro wristband mount and click it onto the bike. I have a rubber doodad on my bike and can just use the velcro wristband wrapped around it.

I need to buy one of my own now.

I have a forerunner 101 and use it with my travel bike. Makes a good cyclocomputer. The forerunner series is designed as a training aid and to collect statistical data. Not as a navigational tool. The nav functions are very basic, so don't expect a moving map display. Otherwise a very good system. The 101 differs from the 305 by not having a heart rate monitor or computer download capability. The 101 also uses AAA batteries while the 305 is rechargeable.

I have one. I used it for both running and riding for a year or so. It works great. It leaves a funny suntan mark on your arm though.

Main issue now is that the battery life has gotten shorter and shorter, and I can no longer do a full century with it. It runs down after about 5 or 6 hours. The battery is not replaceable. I haven't sent it back. I use it just for running now. I've gotten an Edge 705 that I use now for biking.

I've had one for 3 years... it is great, easy to change between bikes and if you run it is great for that... I use pipe installation wrap for a cheap mount, but did finally get the garmin mount for my main bike. I also have the cadence sensor for indoor riding..

The only negative IMO is the elevation is gps based and not as accurate as the edge 305... And after 3 years of lots of use it is not holding a long charge (but I think it has served me well)... But I'll probably upgrade to an edge 305 to get accurate elevation readings.

Thanks guys . So from what iam reading you guys mostly like the unit ! Elevation don"t atter to me I just want miles HRM and maybe cadence so I will have to buy a few things extra to get all that and I want calories burned also . I have another Garmin But its a pita butt to move everytime I switch bikes . So Iam gona order one thanks again .

I got one at xmas. Use for running and on bike. HR Cadence and GPS logging. Great tool. Very happy. I am klutz and got it installed and working on bike in about 5 minutes. Not for navigation but great tool on bike for cadence HR pace etc and very useful after rides for creating routes so you can race against yourself on your regular course etc
