This is a single Fenix L2D Q5 on the handlebar in turbo mode. (180 lumens)

This is two P7 flashlights on the bars, in hi mode a few seconds later. (approx 1000 lumens)

On this road, the Fenix does looks as dim as that in real life.

180 lumens isn't even enough.
The bike is stationary BTW.

EDIT (July 11, 2009): I discovered my L2D LED has been damaged for some time now, so my Fenix opinions are not accurate.

I used to use a MyNewt mini-USB. It was about 100 lumens. I thought that was pretty good until I got my P7.

Now, not only can I see a LOT better, but cars pay attention to me. And the crazy thing is, the P7 was about half the price even including extra batteries, a charger and a mount.

Hehe....for me, that is third generation and I am still enjoying my second generation set up.

I love riding at night and watching the cars react to my bike. Sometimes I think they are afraid to approach me.

I had a policeman pass me by the other night as I was stopped at a stop sign. I followed him a bit and when he pulled over I went up to him. I wanted to know if he could see me. He said, "I saw you from three blocks away."

You can only go as fast as you can see.............. I live in Vermont which has a lot of hills. I just purchased the "Light & Motion Seca 700 Ultra". Gives 700 lumens on high setting and will hold on high for 5 hours. Juiced up with a powerful 9-cell Li-ion battery. Recharge time only 3 hours. Expensive but I'm glad I bought it. Check ebay. I bought mine there new and sealed in box for 407.77. Reputable seller (nijashipper)

Light units project different beams in terms of length and width, areas of greater and lesser intensity. Discussing lumens in the abstract is about as comparing horsepower without knowing the weight of the car, the transmission, etc.

This is another thread that should be a poll.

Not the one I have. I know the photos can really only be used for comparison to each other, but your statement that the Q5 looks like reality doesn't match my reality. It looks more like the 2nd photo.

200 lumens would be twice as good.

If you have to ask is my light bright enough then it is not. Once you have enough light to ride comfortably at night with then you will no longer even think about asking this question any more.

Personally I run 800 lumens on my road bike when riding at night through the city. The more lumens, the better is my motto.

+1
Those photos show very little spill, even on the bright beam.

When I took those the camera was in auto mode. I will take shots again tonight.

I will use 6 SECONDS AT F4 - WHITE BALANCE - DAYLIGHT - ISO 100 as the settings.

EDIT (July 11, 2009): I discovered my L2D LED has been damaged for some time now, so my Fenix opinions are not accurate.
