My DX 18650 charger finally died

It was an $8 trustfire:

I estimate I charged a pair of 18650s around 60 times before it went R.I.P. I guess it took one too many 4 foot drops to the concrete. The power cord where it plugs into the unit has always been loose, leading to accidental drops to the floor when carrying it. Oh well.
Hopefully this $12 charger is more robust:

I hope I get lucky and receive it soon. I estimate that among all my semi charged batteries, I only have about 10 hours of run time if I only use one P7 at low power. :fingers crossed:

^^^

Where are you located? There are plenty of dealers of chargers in NA that will get one to you a lot quicker than ordering from HK.

OMG!!!

then it's not just me.
This is exactly what happened to me.

the darned Trustfire charger, is no longer charging properly, it always says charging, and it never ends.

just today my new UltraFire came in, so i'll see if it really shuts down on its own as advertised :thumb:

I still have one of those old trustfires and found that when you charged just 1 cell you had to use the left bank for proper charging.. It worked for over a year before I bought a PILA charger..

I encountered the exact same problem. The first dozen or so charges seemed fine in either bank. After awhile I noticed that the the right bank's red discharge light would always turn green faster than the left one.

Then the left bank started acting up too. It helped when I bent the tab on the bottom a little.

In the charger's defense it was dropped quite a few times.:crash:

just an update guys, the new one from ultraFire does not "turn off" automatically as advertised.

but at least it is working properly so far, the lights does changes from Red to Green when it's fully charged

GTALuigi 07-02-09 08:00 AM

i bought a trstfire charger maybe 6-9months ago. and it too has died. i use it once every 2-3weeks, so maybe it has had at most 20 charges. the charger has never once been droped or kicked or abused in any way. simply the green/red charging lights don't turn on and it doesn't give the batteries any charge. i spent only 9 dollars on the thing, but it died so quickly. i use trustfire protected 18650 and 14500 batteries, any sugestion on a decent charger that might last for a few years?

It doesn't fully turn-off, but it shouldn't overcharge the battery.
