Garmin 305 Upload Problem

Does anyone have any ideas on this one?
I recently returned from a 7 day bike tour and used my 305 on the entire trip. When I came home I tried to upload everything to both Garmin Training Center and Garmin Connect. The final five days of the trip uploaded fine, however for the first two days it lost all map data. It has the correct distance, time, and speed but has no map data or elevation. This happens both in GTC and Garmin Connect. I've tried uploading directly to Garmin Connect from the device and also exporting the file from GTC and uploading it from there. Does anyone have any idea how to recover this? I'm thinking that if the distance and speed are there the GPS points have to be stored in the device somewhere and should be able to be retrieved.

Thanks.

The Edge series units overwrite older data when the memory gets full. It will still hold the summary data for the ride but not neccessarily the GPS points. How long were the rides each day? Can you see any data for rides prior to the ones that you are having issues with?

It looks like that is what happened. These were 7 rides totaling over 500 miles. I guess if I do that again I'm going to have to remember to take a laptop and get them out of the 305 each day or they will be lost forever.

Interestingly, they are finally pulling a lot of my older rides over into Garmin Connect from Motion Based and they are losing the detail for them. Since I still have the detail in training center I try and manually upload the .tcx file and am told that the activity already exists. Can't win.

Same issue?

I have the Edge 705 and am having a similar problem, but I'm very surprised about how it manifests itself.

Last Thursday, I decided to explore the course of a century tour that is coming up soon here in Utah. I ended up driving the first 25 miles, parking and then biking the next 50 miles (an out and back), then drove the remaining 25 miles. When I look at the history on my Edge, I see all three "rides", including the two laps (out and then back) that made up the 50 mile ride.

When I try to upload the rides, however, it seems I can only access the two driving portions of my day. The 50 mile bike ride doesn't get uploaded and I can't see a third .tcx file on the Garmin either. Unfortunately, it was the 50 mile portion that I was most interested in reviewing because it had actual performance data.

Do you think this is the same issue? I don't have that many rides stored on my Garmin, but if it was running out of memory, wouldn't it overwrite *old* events, rather than lose the data for a "current" event?

Thanks!

Cike

I doubt that you ran out of memory. I take it you pressed the reset button between each portion of the "ride" thus resulting in what should have been three files in the history screen of the Edge and three seperate TCX files.

Do you see anything in the laps folder?

I agree that this is unlikely to be a memory problem. Even when I had the original problem with my 305 it still held 350-400 miles of riding before running out of memory.

simillar thing for me too. did 6 days of riding out in Colorado, 550 miles and 40k of climbing. on my 305 prior to this trip i had 2500 miles of rides from the summer. when i uploaded the data the first two days had no map and no elevation data. the rest of data was there. the gurus over at the MB forum suggested my 305 ran out of memory or something like that. later.
