AAA batteries on sale
 

FYI -- I needed some new rechargeable AAA batteries, so went looking for some at Target yesterday. They had Duracell rechargeable 1000 mAh batteries on sale for about $6.50 a 4-pack. That is the cheapest I have seen AAA batteries. Usually they cost $11-12. I've had good performance from the Duracell rechargeables compared to Rayovacs and Energizers, which seem to lose their charge much quicker.

Duracell rechargeables are great, I use them for my cameras and flash.
Oddly enough I saw the AA were on discount here as well: approx $6.3 for the 4, so I got 8 :)
I currently have about 16 of them.

BatterySpace.com has 12 AAAs for $10.50. I generally order a pretty good sized pack of batteries at once so the shipping goes down.

I have used name brand and off brand (Powerizer and such) and have not noticed any difference at all; I suspect they're all made in the same plant in China.

However, I no longer buy any NiMH except for low-self-discharge batteries. They ARE worth the extra money - you can charge them up, let them sit a month, and still use them, whereas normal NiMHs would need topping off first. For AAs I get house brand (Meijer) "precharged" 4 for $7.99. I haven't found any great deals on low self discharge AAAs yet.

Are those rechargeable NiMH batteries?

I've seen plenty of good deals on non-rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, but not very often for rechargeables.

Sometimes Target has sales on the Rayovac low self discharge batteries, but I'm not too impressed with them. They don't hold as much charge or last as long as others I have tried.

Yes, they're rechargable. That would be a lousy price for alkalines.

I'm not impressed with name brands in general for rechargables. I've got very old Powerizer batteries (probably 6 years old) that still work fine (though they were state-of-the-art 1850 mAH at the time) and I have had Ray-O-Vac rechargables become useless after less than a year.

Sanyo Eneloop is the gold standard for low-self-discharge batteries. Both they and the Meijer house brands have been excellent for me. If I use regular NiMH and they've been sitting for a few weeks, it seems like half their charge is already gone. The LSD batteries I can leave in a bag for a couple of months and they're still totally fine.

I think with any brand you need to buy a pack and see how they do before buying a bunch.

I've probably got 30 or 40 Powerizers from batteryspace.com, plus my bottle battery and its smart charger for my HID light is from them. No problems.

Duracell rechargeables are made in Japan. They hold a decent charge and last a lot. I only use Duracell and Sony rechargeables and both are made in Japan. They are great.

Not all the duracells are made in Japan (the pre-charged anyway). If they have a white top then they are made in the same factory in japan as eneloops, if they have the black top then they are made in the factories in china that make rayovacs and others. The white top are commonly called duraloops on other forums, if you see those buy a few extras, they are worth every penny.
I don't know if this holds for the non-pre-charged, pre-charged is duracells name for the low self discharge, if they are more than 2000-2100mAh then they are not the pre-charged (LSD).

I hope that eventually all the NiMHs will be low-self-discharge. Right now they're charging a premium for them, but it turns out the only difference is that there's a piece of electrolyte paper soaked in de-ionized water in the LSD batteries. Probably costs about 1/2 of a penny to put in, they double the price of the battery in response.

I've not found the price to be that bad, LSD at a decent store are still cheaper than non lsd at a corrupt store like radio shack. I remember years ago paying $10 for a 2 pack of 1200mAh AA's from ratshack then going online and ordering Sanyo 1600mAh for $2 each because I didn't want to be out someplace and need some and have to pay that much again.

Well, sure, but Sanyo Eneloops are $15 for 4. Even name-brand rechargables at the same stores are $8.99 for 4 right next to them. That's like double the price, and it costs almost nothing extra to make these.
It's not a huge deal if you have 4 or 8 of them, but I have dozens of AAs in my fleet.

You must be shopping at the wrong stores. I bought a bunch of eneloops at $9.99/4 pack from a small chain called hhgregg until they ran out then I ordered them from Thomas Distributing for $11.99/4 pack. I have close to 100 in use now.

Wait until they have a free shipping deal then buy some. I ordered my c9000 on sale, got free shipping and 4 packs of eneloops last time.
