Overvolting an electric motor...

So I'm making one of those overvolted MR16 light setups and I'm gonna be using a 14.4v battery. Right now, I've got a car horn (electric motor/air compressor hooked up to two little air horn trumpet things) that runs off of a small 12v SLA battery. Will I be able to use the 14.4v battery for this motor?

probably no problem. If the motor is designed to handle the load easily, then increasing the voltage a little is no problem. if the motor was already on the edge of what it could handle (unlikely) then you'll break it.

For service as intermittent as an air horn there should be no problem IMO. Automotive 12V motors routinely run at 13.2+ volts which is the actual output of a 12v lead acid battery when fully charged and the car alternator output is above that in order to charge the battery, usually in the 13.6v to 13.8v range as I recall.
