Magic Shine - Battery Mounting Options
Hey all,
Just got my magic shine last week - love it - great build, nice and bright - (smaller than I expected - a nice surprise) - Mine is the newer one with the shorter cable from the light and the ext. cable option. There seem to be lots of thoughts about how/where to mount the battery in that huge ongoing thread in the forum - I am really curious as to where YOUR battery ended up. do tell I struggled with mounting it in a few places. (Trek hybrid FX 7.6) 1. under the top tube ... Wasn't grabbing like I hoped and was sliding back - would be nice if they had a velcro strap on the front / stem side to hold it forward 2. under the bottom tube - helped to pickup the short cable slack - I caught it forward but putting the straps before my break cable hits the tube. - took it for ride and worried that if that velcro ever gave that sucker would be in my front spokes in a heartbeat - 3. Seat pack or Trunk pack - sure it could go back there but that's yet another long cable to secure or wrap around the upper tube... Where did mine end up ? I have few bento boxes - and the tiny one ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_oh_product ) is perfect for holding the battery and the extra cable - it mounts on the top tube top and double velcros to both the tube and the stem - ... Where did you mount yours ? |
I have a Nitto M-12 front rack on my commuter bike, and I have just strapped the battery to the upright portion of the rack. I use a velcro pump strap to hold the battery in place. Some days I carry more gear and put a bag on my front rack, so the battery just goes in the bag. Another good option would be a handlebar or stem-mount bag, of which there are numerous styles.

I strapped mine to the stem. Like it better than the top tube

Bento Box.

Mine wound up in the bag that holds my battery for my e-assist, which is on a small front rack that mounts to the canti studs on the fork.

I keep my battery in my messenger bag, run the cable over my shoulder, in my ear and out my mouth to keep it from flapping around.

Mine either goes in my stem bag or wrap around top tube and add a 12" velcro loop to cinch it down so it will not move.. The velcro that comes on the bag, isn't very tacky..

Under the stem. First I wrap up all the excess cord from the lamp, then strap it under the stem with a velcro strap, then strap the battery over that.

On handle bar near stem with a 8" long velcro strap from my any camping store. They cost around $3.50-5.00 a pair based on size. I use a 12" to keep my rain jacket in one of my water cages in iffy weather. Put the jacket/socks in a zip lock or waterproof pouch and velcro around seat tube to secure. I'll even put an extra tire around the cage with a water bottle in the cage for long trips.
I find the bento boxes rub my legs in climbs and the velcro wears my shorts down. |
