LED bulb for vintage-style headlamp?

LED bulb for vintage-style headlamp?
Any recommendations of an LED bulb/modification for use in vintage (i.e. chrome bullet-style) C or D cell battery headlights? I did see someone who had used a LED upgrade bulb for a Maglite flashlight. Would this be the best route and, if so, is one brand better than another? This is for "more for show than go" on a vintage 3-speed so doesn't need to light up the world, but some decent function would be great. Thanks!

The Maglite bulbs have a larger than standard base diameter and will not fit most lights which take flanged base bulbs. Terralux does 1 watt conversion bulbs in both screw base and flanged base which are more universal fit though no guarantee about fitting a European headlight.
