I've got a Strada computer mounted on my road bike, and the plastic handlebar mount no longer holds the computer securely. Hitting bumps hard enough causes the computer to fly off the mount. It looks like a small piece of plastic on the mount has broken off.

I was wondering if anyone had encountered this and worked out a solution. The only thing I can currently think of would be to glue the computer to the mount, but I'd rather not do something so permanent.

My first one the plastic retainer snapped within a week. I got a replacement no charge. I never mounted it. Head fell several thousand miles later (not because the tab was broken, but because I hit it hard with hand and it went flying) and I bought a new one of same. Plastic mount broke within a week.

What works very well is to make a replacement plastic tab in a T shape that you insert from under the hole where the old tab was (lift base and insert from underneath). You need to play around with it a bit so your homemade tab sticks out enough to catch the slot in head. Option for tab include a cut up tie wrap (you can use end with loop hole as the base to hold it under mount) or even some plastic adhesive tape (like clear packing tape). Make a tight roll of it to fit thru hole and cut it to 1/8 long or so, then mushroom one end - the other end pokes thru the hole where the old tab was. That is what I use now and it has worked for many hundreds of head removal/replacements. The tight roll of plastic tape had enough give to 'snap' into place and hold in the recess under the head.

You can also put a thin strip of adhesive tape on the sides of the mount to increase friction.

Thanks for the reply. Using some packing tape sounds like a good idea. On my way out the door today, I found an old twist tie that I wrapped around the base of the computer while it was in the mount. It's ugly, but it worked.

I wouldn't buy a new mount. They break way to easy.

You don't have to wrap it, but that of course works. All you need is something that is soft/compliant that will wedge into (or stick out from under) the hole where the catch tab was and will not fall out with repeated use.
