Romisen RC-N3 Q5: fork mounted (pics)

Just received this light from Shining Beam. Gonna get another one for the other side.

Very nice looking. What did you use to mount it on the fork?

mijome07 03-12-10 07:10 PM

Thanks. I got these.

Sweet, how well does it work?

Thanks. I initially ordered the Romisen RC-G2 II Q5. This little light is bright for a 1 AA and has great throw. Probably move this to the helmet. The new light is a lot brighter. Greater flood and throw. Good budget lights. :thumb:

Thanks for the reference. Looks like the minoura is not recommended for carbon forks. :(

This position is a lot better. Gonna be ordering another one. Now I have to decide what floods/spill to get for the fork mounts. This setup would be for off-road, not commuting.

What's that mount in front of the bars? And, did the light come with the bracket?

The mount is a Topeak Bar Extender. And no, the bracket did not come with the light.

I have a P7 MTE and an Trustfire TR-801 on my handlebars. They take up a lot of space
and the brake cables block some of the light. This bar extender doesn't look too fugly
on the bike and I could consider using a 2x18650 light :-)

I got the Topeak Bar Extender but waiting for the Cygolite and completion of tune up on my bike now. In fact I was considering the same set up with two lights on the fork with the same mounting bracket, Minoura. Nice set up.

The problem I see with that Minoura bracket is the paint damage the metal ring will cause. There will be vibration through the fork, and the finish is going to get chewed up.

Nice setup, OP!

I agree. That's why I have a rubber shim that wraps completely under the bracket. I also wrapped electrical tape under the Topeak bracket. No way I was gonna scratch up a brand new bike. :thumb:

Thank you sir. I wasn't gonna post it 'til I had another light, but I figured why not.

It looks like a weapon!

Any chance of you taking a photo or two to show how you "insulated" the metal from the fork?

mijome07 04-13-10 02:52 PM

No problem. As you can see, the rubber shim is wider than the band. Not only does it protect the fork, but it also provides a snug fit.

Just for fun. Here's a photo of my 1st light setup. Forgive me, I didn't know any better. :D
