multi-sport data - whats best?

Hi,

Upfront - an apology if I've missed this thread somethere else.

Looking for the ideal combo of devices to track & assist with training for triathlon. I currently use a Suunto X6HRM which isn't bad but there is no bike/run GPS capability and the Suunto Acitivity Manager software is pretty modest. I've looked at their T6 package which seems much more training oriented but I'm not sure about the watch if its taken swimming regularly + there seems to be plenty of other options around. Anyone got a favourite that they'd recommend? Stick with Suunto?

Cheapest and pretty excellent is the Garmin 305. No power readings, not waterproof, and won't last a 13 hour ironman, but will work excellently for bike n run with the bike cadence sensor.

Check out Garmin's forerunner series. They are worn like a watch, are GPS enabled, and most units can be used with a HR monitor and a speed/cadence sensor for your bike. They are also waterproof. So you can put on a Forerunner, and it will work as a running computer and then when you get to the bike it will pick up the data from the cadence sensor and become a bike computer - and when it is time to swim no worries, it is waterproof to IPX7 standards.

Look at the Forerunner 305 and Forerunner 310XT - one of those two is probably what you want. The 405 and 405CX are not really multi-sport models, and the 205 can not use bike specific stuff like a cadence sensor.

Use the "compare models" to find the one with the features you think you need, then download the user manual to make sure it will work for you before you buy.

Thanks guys. I've had a look at the Garmin stuff and can see why you recommend it. The Forerunner 305 is probably the one - I'll go through in more detail ( user manual etc) before buying anything.
A quick question: do you know if their software has any issues with working on a Mac? I'm guessing its fine because its mostly web-based but.....
